We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented contract Wayfinding Designer to help our client develop intuitive navigation systems that enhance user experience in physical spaces. This role involves designing signage, maps, and environmental graphics that guide people effectively through large retail environments. The ideal candidate has expertise in graphic design, spatial planning, and user experience, with a strong understanding of typography, color theory, and materials.
Responsibilities:
- Develop wayfinding strategies and design systems that improve navigation and user experience.
- Create clear, visually appealing signage, maps, and environmental graphics.
- Conduct site analysis, user research, and traffic flow studies to inform design decisions.
- Collaborate with architects, urban planners, and stakeholders to integrate wayfinding into the built environment.
- Select appropriate materials, typography, colors, and iconography for signage systems.
- Produce design presentations, technical drawings, and specifications for fabrication.
- Ensure accessibility and compliance with ADA and other regulatory guidelines.
- Oversee production and installation of wayfinding elements, working with vendors and fabricators.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Environmental Design, Industrial Design, Architecture, or related field.
- 5-7 of years of experience in wayfinding, signage design, or environmental graphics.
- Proficiency in design software (Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar).
- Strong understanding of spatial design, typography, and user behavior.
- Experience with fabrication methods and materials for signage and environmental graphics.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on large-scale projects (airports, hospitals, corporate campuses, etc.).
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (ADA, WCAG) and best practices in wayfinding.
- Familiarity with GIS mapping tools or digital wayfinding technology is a plus.
