Spatial / Multidisciplinary Designer

Job Description

Spatial Designer (Experiential / Retail / Pop-Ups / 2D / Branding & Design

Role Summary

We're looking for a Spatial Designer to help bring our experiential marketing (XM) activations, retail environments, and hospitality pop-ups to life. This role is a mix of concept, design, and real-world build, so you'll need to think in 3D, design beautifully, and understand how things actually get made.

You'll work closely with Creative Directors, designers, writers, strategists, producers, and fabrication partners to develop environments that are on-brand, immersive, functional, and unforgettable from first sketch to opening day.

  • PLEASE INCLUDE PORTFOLIO LINK

What You'll Do

Concept & Spatial Ideation

  • Translate briefs into strong spatial concepts for brand activations, retail installs, and pop-up hospitality experiences.
  • Contribute to brainstorms and help generate multiple design routes quickly.
  • Think through the full guest journey: entry flow touchpoints moments that stick.
  • Pair storytelling with design so the environment means something, not just looks nice.

3D Design & Visualization

  • Produce layouts, elevations, 3D models, and renderings that clearly communicate intent.
  • Create environment key frames and visual narratives for presentations and pitch decks.
  • Develop design systems for spaces (materials, signage, lighting, fixtures, furniture, props, interactive zones).
  • Support both "big idea" visualization and detailed design development.

Technical Design & Production Support

  • Work with producers and fabricators to ensure designs are feasible, budget-aware, and safe.
  • Prepare scaled drawings / specs when needed (floor plans, sight lines, clearances, accessibility).
  • Help source materials, finishes, furnishings, and scenic elements.
  • Flag risks early (budget, lead time, site constraints, safety, install complexity).
  • Attend site visits, tech checks, and installs as required.

Collaboration & Client Communication

  • Partner with brand teams, account, strategy, and production to keep work aligned to the brief.
  • Present design intent clearly to internal teams and clients.
  • Incorporate feedback without losing the creative spark.
  • Coordinate with vendors and external partners to maintain design integrity through build.

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • 3-7+ years of experience in spatial / experiential / retail / event / environmental design.
  • Branding and Design work with examples
  • Strong portfolio showing 3D and 2D thinking, real-world builds, and compelling environments.
  • Skilled in core tools, including:
  • 3D + rendering (SketchUp / Rhino / Cinema4D / Blender or similar)
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Layout / drafting (AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Revit, or equivalent)
  • Presentation tools (Keynote / PowerPoint / Google Slides)
  • Solid understanding of fabrication processes and materials (scenic, signage, retail fixtures, finishes).
  • Ability to design within constraints: budgets, timelines, site conditions, brand rules.
  • Great visual communication - you can make an idea legible fast.
  • Organized, proactive, and comfortable working on multiple projects at once.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with hospitality environments (pop-up bars, restaurant takeovers, food culture builds).
  • Familiarity with interactive / tech-enabled spaces (AR, projection, sensors, etc.).
  • Motion or walkthrough capability (After Effects, Unreal, Enscape, Twinmotion, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of code / compliance / accessibility standards.
  • Vendor network or sourcing experience.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Concepts feel experience-first, not just design-first.
  • Spaces are exciting, brand-right, and buildable without last-minute redesigns.
  • Presentations clearly sell the journey, the look, and the logic.
  • Fabricators love working with you because your ideas are ambitious and realistic.
  • Clients walk into the finished space, and it matches (or beats) what they bought.

Why Join In

  • You'll work on a wide range of XM activations, retail spaces, and hospitality pop-ups.
  • You'll collaborate with a tight senior creative team and have real influence on ideas.
  • We care about craft, culture, and making experiences people actually talk about.
  • You'll see your concepts become real in the world, fast.
