Role Overview

As a Machine Learning Engineer (Operations Research Engineer), you will develop machine learning solutions to enhance our fulfillment platform, improving customer experience and store operations. Your work involves leveraging operational data to predict, forecast, and optimize inventory and fulfillment capacity, balancing timely deliveries with operational costs. You will collaborate with stakeholders across Store Operations, Fulfillment Software Engineering, Product Management, and Analytics, from brainstorming to deployment.

Responsibilities

  1. Communicate: Collaborate cross-functionally with teams to source data, define requirements, and establish success metrics.
  2. Code: Develop scalable, high-performance ML solutions using large structured and unstructured datasets.
  3. Collaborate: Work with Engineering and Data Platform teams to deploy models into production.
  4. Design experiments: Measure the effectiveness of solutions via key metrics like labor rate, pick efficiency, order readiness, and fill rate.
  5. Document: Share findings and results with stakeholders and engage in technical discussions with Data Science teams.

Candidate Profile

  • MS or Ph.D. in STEM (preferably computer science) or BS with equivalent experience in data science/ML roles.
  • Portfolio of work in predictive analytics, time series forecasting, operations research, or supply chain optimization.
  • Creative, resourceful, and effective problem-solver.
  • Passionate about applying data science to dynamic problems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficient in SQL, Python, shell scripting/unix.
  • Experience with big data tools (Spark, Beam, Kafka), Airflow, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Knowledge of software development best practices.
