Anime Universe

General Counsel

– Equity Partner –

Location: Remote

Jurisdiction: Global (Strong preference for Canada/U.S. legal expertise)

Minimum Commitment: 20 hours per week

Department: Legal Frontier Innovators

Reports To: CEO

This is not a job. It’s a chance to rewrite the legal architecture of the future.

What You Put In Is What You Get Out

This is a founder-level legal and strategic command role. As General Counsel, you are the first architect of the legal code behind Anime Universe and its growing constellation of ventures.

You don’t just interpret law-you craft the structures, governance, and protections that make scale, creativity, and value possible.

You’re not here to manage a rulebook. You’re here to write one.

Minimum commitment: 20 hours/week. If that’s not realistic, we totally respect that-but this isn’t the right seat at the table.

This is an equity partner role. That means:

  • No upfront cash compensation
  • Equity (shares) at founding partner level (vesting standard)
  • Future token-based rewards (pending legal approvals)
  • Salary activates with revenue-based milestones
  • Remote-first, async-native, counsel-to-creation model

Let’s Be Absolutely Clear

This is not a GC title at a legacy company.

This is not a law firm role.

You are the legal architect.

The systems builder. The platform protector.

You define how trust, rights, risk, and rewards operate across global structures.

Your work will underpin companies, products, tokens, IP, and people for generations to come.

Overview

We’re recruiting a General Counsel to launch and lead Legal Frontier Innovators-Anime Universe’s internal global legal powerhouse. This is the legal command post for a network of next-gen companies at the intersection of entertainment, IP, technology, and decentralized ecosystems.

You will build the legal scaffolding for an organization set to scale to 36 companies in 10 years. You’ll lead legal design from zero-from entity formation and IP frameworks to tokenomics and international compliance-and you’ll do it in sync with visionary leadership and bleeding-edge product teams.

What You’ll Own

  • Architect the core legal systems: incorporation, governance, contracts, IP, and risk models
  • Lead and scale a team of Deputy General Counsels across Entertainment, Tech, IP, Privacy, Blockchain, and Data Security
  • Design future-facing legal frameworks for tokenomics, equity, employment, and international ops
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage high-level legal instruments (commercial, IP, employment, regulatory)
  • Own legal operations across U.S., Canada, and key global jurisdictions (Japan, Ireland, Cayman, etc.)
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to CEO, founders, and boards
  • Build the tools, processes, and practices that turn legal from constraint to capability

What We’re Looking For

  • 15+ years in law, with proven mastery across Entertainment, IP, and Technology
  • Experience launching or scaling multi-entity legal infrastructure for high-growth companies
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian and U.S. law; international legal fluency is a bonus
  • Comfort in the evolving frontier of Web3, tokenomics, DAOs, and regulatory emergence
  • Trusted legal strategist with startup grit and founder empathy
  • Bonus: Built legal infrastructure from zero, or advised across multiple jurisdictions and sectors

Compensation

Equity (Shares): Founding partner-level equity

Token-Based Rewards: Future layer pending legal and jurisdictional approval

Future Salary: Activates alongside funding and revenue milestones

Remote First: Fully distributed team; async-native, trust-based execution

Our Promise

You won’t be a cog. You’ll be a cornerstone.

You’ll shape the legal DNA of a universe designed to disrupt, create, and endure.

Your frameworks will enable creators, coders, communities, and capital to move fast-without breaking trust. If you’ve been waiting to help build the law stack of the next creative economy-this is your moment.
