We are seeking an Insolvency / Commercial Litigation Lawyer to join our client’s North York location. This is an exceptional opportunity to work at an entrepreneurial firm with a collegial environment. The position will involve exposure to general civil litigation, with an opportunity to focus on and to develop expertise in one or more specific practice areas. Applicants must have excellent advocacy, interpersonal and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a partial portable book of business and 4+ years of related legal experience.

Our client is an established, full-service law firm with over 60 lawyers. The firm has a broad-based practice which includes bankruptcy / insolvency, business law, commercial lending, commercial litigation, commercial and residential real estate, condominium law, employment and labour law, family law, immigration law, planning and development law, personal injury, wills and estates, and tax law.

Key Responsibilities :


  • Represent clients in both secured and unsecured debt collection matters.
  • Provide expert advice on vetting and securing interests.
  • Assist with receiverships and insolvency matters.
  • Manage all aspects of bankruptcy matters from filing through discharge.
  • Represent clients in all manner of commercial litigation matters, including breach of contract, commercial lease enforcement, employment, injunctions, shareholder disputes, real estate and construction lien matters.
  • Have carriage of commercial litigation files, including drafting, conducting examinations, arguing motions, participating in dispute resolution, and appearing at trial.

Key Requirements :

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in insolvency law, debt collection, and commercial litigation.
  • Strong expertise in security vetting and receivership.
  • Excellent advocacy skills, including drafting, conducting examinations, and appearing in court on contested matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building strong client relationships.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

We require in-office attendance of at least 3 days per week.
