All these transformational projects exist alongside our current operations. It is in this context that VIA Rail is seeking a Warehouse Supervisor, whose job will be to manage warehouse operations for material that will be used for our existing and new trains.



Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, the Warehouse Supervisor will be required to manage the day-to-day operations of the Montreal (MMC) and Toronto (TMC) warehouses. including oversight of daily activities and ensuring even workload distribution over 3 shifts.

•The incumbent will plan, assign work, and communicate directives to a staff of 20 – 25 unionized employees for all material movement including the reception, put-away, issuing, transfer, and return of materials.

•The incumbent will work with two inventory systems and liaise with internal procurement resources and a third-party supplier for inventoried materials.

•The incumbent will be managing significant change management in their sector and should have previous experience in introducing new systems, tools or processes.


•The incumbent will perform all necessary follow-ups within his department to ensure optimal service is provided to the operations and promote best practices for Health and Safety.

•The incumbent must demonstrate leadership in developing employee skills while ensuring cohesive work relationships within the team as well as with union representatives and internal clients.

•Approves time sheets, and manages overtime, vacation schedule, and movement of employees.

Revises work schedules to meet operational requirements, hires new employees, coordinates training, assures collective agreements are respected, and addresses disciplinary issues with employees.

•Manages the material inventory process through efficient reception/return practices, space utilization, regular inventory cycle counts and the rotation of stock. Manages the receipt and storage of chemical and gas supplies.



•Ensures material is prepared, staged and issued to operations according to established workflows and processes for planned maintenance and support for ad-hoc requirements.

•Identifies, documents and standardizes warehouse processes and ensures they are followed by employees. Manages and actions current KPIs and introduces new KPIs to ensure maximum efficiency.



•Manages the integration of new technology and processes as well as supports change management initiatives. Identifies continuous improvement initiatives and participates in working groups to achieve improvements.

Requirements : •Post-secondary education is required, a Certificate or DEC in Operations Management/Logistics is an asset.
Ten (10) years of experience in managing warehouse environments.
•Must have working knowledge of the transport industry (courier, LTL, TL, customs) and 3rd party warehousing.
•Must have experience working with an ERP system (Oracle an asset).
•Knowledge of asset management software is a plus (e.g. IBM Maximo).
•Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
•Experience in material handling of heavy industrial parts, repair & returns (a plus).
•Experience managing a team of employees in multiple locations (unionized an asset).
•Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
•Proven organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.
•Customer and result-oriented, has integrity, flexibility, and capacity to work under stress.
•Must be available to work shifts and travel to Toronto regularly (20%).
