Position Summary Shift: Monday to Friday We have an opening in our Calgary location for the position of Dock and Warehouse Lead Hand. This position is an important support role in the operations department. Previous dock experience in transportation is required for this position Description & Responsibilities are as follows, · safely loads and securely stows freight into linehaul (highway) trailers, city pick-up and delivery trucks, trailers or other vehicles; loading and stowing freight is performed in an effective manner to prevent equipment damage and cargo damage in transit and/or during unloading, and to fully utilize the maximum cargo carrying capacity of the vehicle (i.e. maximizes load factor) · safely unloads freight from linehaul trailers, city pick-up and delivery trucks, trailers or other vehicles · accepts shipments from customers and interline carriers; releases shipments to customers and interline carriers · exercises good judgment and refers concerns to supervisor for any shipments that may not be properly prepared for transport · meticulously maintains paperwork · reports to and works under the supervision of the operations supervisor · maintains the company’s commitment to safety as a top priority at all times Experience and Qualifications · physically suited to the nature of the work, which includes sustaining repetitive motion and manual labor with periods of peak physical exertion, bending, lifting and carrying weights up to 70 pounds, twisting, turning, reaching overhead · must possess and wear at all times appropriate personal protective safety equipment including approved steel-toed boots or footwear, gloves, suitable work clothing which provides protection against normal hazards in an industrial workplace · can be certified forklift operator or be able to acquire training and meet company and legislated requirements within 3 months of employment · English language fluency and literacy skills: reading, writing and comprehension of written and verbal instructions; effective written and verbal communications to co-workers and supervisors · numerical skills: basic arithmetic comprehension including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division · aptitude for working safely with mechanical equipment and systems · plans and organizes workload effectively, sustains productive work · displays attentiveness to hazards, duties and thoroughness of work, forms and reports · dependable and reliable, with prior work record for regular attendance and punctuality . minimum 1 years transportation experience We offer a competitive compensation and benefits plan and an opportunity for advancement.
