What Stands Out About This Role:
This role isn’t for everyone, and that’s exactly the point. It’s for a finance leader who thrives in evolving environments and knows how to bring clarity, structure, and strategic insight that fuels growth. You’ve spent your career building finance functions that don’t just support a business – they help lead it.
You’ll be joining a private, Canadian-owned logistics company at a pivotal moment.
With a strong foundation and a clear plan to scale from $50M to $100M in under five years, this is your chance to modernize finance into a true growth engine. That means faster reporting, smarter systems, stronger processes, and sharper insights – all aimed at driving better, faster decisions.
You’ll work closely with the President and VP in a hands-on, high-impact leadership role. Your mission?.
Level up finance operations and team performance while helping to accelerate the order-to-cash cycle and prepare the business to scale with confidence.
This isn’t a plug-and-play finance job. It’s hands-on, gritty, and full of opportunity. If you find energy in the build, crave influence and momentum, and are ready to leave your mark on a high-growth Canadian company, let’s talk.
About the Role:
Drive accuracy, transparency, and partnership across the business:
You are the anchor of financial truth in the organization.
This role isn’t just about reporting the numbers; it’s about making sense of them, challenging assumptions, and guiding the business forward. As one of three key leaders at the top, you’ll partner closely with the President and VP to create the financial clarity and strategic direction that drives decision-making across the company.
- Act as a true business partner to the President and VP. Together, you will set the tone for operational excellence.
- Ensure all financial data is accurate, timely, and presented in a clear, actionable format.
- Guide the leadership team through critical decisions using real-time insight, scenario modelling, and business acumen.
- Develop financial dashboards and reporting tools that increase visibility across departments.
- Due to the extremely heavy transactional environment, speed and accuracy are essential to maintaining the organization’s strong financial position.
Build and lead a finance function fit for scale:
This isn’t a minor upgrade.
You’ll rebuild the core of the finance department, from processes and workflows to tools and accountability. The goal is a streamlined, tech-enabled finance function that delivers speed, accuracy, and efficiency without unnecessary headcount.
- Replace spreadsheet workarounds with integrated, automated systems.
- Redesign invoicing, billing, AR/AP, and month-end processes to support a lean, scalable model.
- Clean up and modernize the chart of accounts and reporting structure.
- Implement controls, policies, and documentation that prepare the company for audit, financing, and long-term growth.
- Lead system configuration and tech optimization to eliminate duplication and increase data reliability.
Shift from backward-looking to forward-thinking finance:
The company knows where it’s been; it needs a clearer view of where it’s going. You’ll lead forecasting, margin analysis, and cash flow planning that help the business stay agile, prepared, and focused on the right opportunities.
- Own annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, and strategic planning cycles.
- Build a reliable cash flow model and align it to operational needs.
- Drive profitability analysis and pricing insights to support leadership and sales.
- Monitor KPIs that matter and create financial models for future scenarios.
- Challenge assumptions and bring clarity to ambiguity with strong data and logic.
What We Need From You:
- You bring at least 20 years of experience in finance, with a minimum of 7 years in an executive leadership role, ideally within a private company that has undergone meaningful growth or transformation.
- You’ve successfully led organizations through scaling efforts and know what it takes to grow smart, not just big.
Experience in high-transaction environments like logistics, transportation, or supply chain is a strong asset. - You’ve overseen system overhauls and process redesigns, and have a clear point of view on how to reduce manual work, improve financial accuracy, and implement efficient, tech-enabled workflows.
- You’re confident in your ability to manage AR/AP, invoicing, and billing clean-up and have built out or led strong FP&A functions that bring proactive insights to leadership, not just historical reports.
- You’re a true business partner, able to translate financials into strategy, guide executive decision-making, and represent the company confidently with banks, vendors, and enterprise clients.
- You’re a hands-on leader who mentors others, sets high expectations, and creates clarity and accountability across your team. You know how to bring people with you and level up talent along the way.
- You lead with a builder’s mindset, always looking for ways to improve, challenge the status quo, and ensure finance is a strategic engine, not just a reporting function.
- You thrive in change-heavy environments and don’t get flustered when things are in motion. You bring structure to ambiguity and energy to complex challenges.
