UX/UI Designer

1851 Labs Toronto

Job Description

About GenTube

GenTube is a consumer AI creation platform built on a simple belief: creation should be entertainment.

Last year, people created 70M+ images on GenTube. What matters more is what's emerging now: a small but growing group opens the app with no prompt, no task, and stays for hours. No nudges. No incentives. That behavior is the signal we're building around.

We're an early, opinionated team based in Toronto, backed by top consumer AI investors and operators who've built at global scale.

Our ambition is straightforward and hard: build the next great consumer AI creation company for a billion people.

The Role

We're hiring a UX / UI Designer to help build the core product systems behind GenTube.

You'll work directly with product and engineering to design flows, states, and loops - and you'll be expected to form hypotheses, ship fast, and measure outcomes.

If you like moving quickly, thinking in systems, and proving what works, keep reading.

What You Will Do

  • Design and evolve end-to-end flows: create feedback remix return.
  • Turn product questions into clear design hypotheses.
  • Ship designs quickly, observe real user behavior, iterate.
  • Work closely with engineers to ensure designs ship as intended.
  • Design for speed and clarity - minimal friction, obvious next actions.
  • Help define and refine design systems that support fast iteration.
  • Use metrics and qualitative signals to decide what to keep, change, or kill.

What We Are Looking For

Systems & Product Thinking

  • Experience designing consumer products at scale.
  • You think in flows, states, and loops, not static screens.
  • You understand how design choices affect activation, retention, and engagement.

Hypothesis-Driven Design

  • You can articulate why a design should work.
  • You're comfortable pairing designs with success metrics.
  • You use data, user behavior, and feedback to guide iteration.

Speed & Execution

  • You move fast and don't over-polish early.
  • You're comfortable designing in ambiguity.
  • You care deeply about what ships, not just what's proposed.

Collaboration & Ownership

  • You work well with engineers and product partners.
  • You take ownership over outcomes, not just deliverables.
  • You're comfortable being wrong - and correcting course quickly.

Why Join

  • Founders have scaled consumer products to 100M+ users and led a $150M+ AI exit.
  • Backed by top consumer AI investors and operators.
  • We're building the kind of company Canada rarely builds - consumer-first, global, culturally relevant.
  • Small team. High bar. No bureaucracy.
  • A rag-tag group of pirates in the desert.

Location: Toronto (downtown). On-site.

Comp: Competitive salary + meaningful equity.

Benefits: Health, dental, vision, unlimited PTO, creative tools & education stipend.

Taste, curiosity, and ownership matter more than pedigree.

If you want to ship ML that millions of people feel, measure what works, and push the edge of consumer AI - we want to hear from you.
