<p>POSITION SUMMARY</p><p>The Utilities Operator is responsible for maintaining water, wastewater and stormwater systems and facilities. This position is within a multi-function team that provides analytical and environmental testing.</p><p>COMPENSATION</p><ul><li>2025 wage range: $31.42 / hour to $34.34 / hour</li><li>$3/hour shift premium for evenings and weekends</li><li>100% employer paid health and dental benefit premiums (excluding LTD) after successful completion of a 6-month probationary period</li><li>$1000 annual health spending account</li><li>Opportunity for a 5.75% increase effective January 1, 2026</li><li>Opportunity for a 5.75% increase effective January 1, 2027</li></ul><p>TERM</p><ul><li>This is a temporary position, with an expected Term of (2)-years.</li></ul><p>JOB DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES</p><ul><li>Operate and maintain distribution equipment including computer control systems, alarm signals, regulate flows and distribute potable water</li><li>Perform routine maintenance on various distribution equipment</li><li>Collect and analyze water samples from random spots in the distribution system as determined by the Utility Foreman</li><li>Collect and analyze sanitary samples from lagoons, outfall line, the Oldman River and various locations as determined by the Utility Foreman</li><li>Perform laboratory duties and keep accurate records</li><li>Provide all monthly and annual reports to Alberta and Environment Canada</li><li>Maintain operation and maintenance of Level I Wastewater Treatment as well as Level II Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection</li><li>Maintain and operate all SCADA and other software programs required for water and wastewater systems</li><li>Operating a Hydro-Vac Truck and other equipment</li><li>Able to keep clean and maintain all equipment to the Town's standards</li><li>Provide First Call locates for all utilities</li><li>Perform on-call duties if required</li><li>Perform other duties as required</li></ul><p>REQUIREMENTS</p><ul><li>High School Diploma or G.E.D.</li><li>Certificates: Water Distribution Level I, Sanitary Sewer Collection Level I, Sanitary Sewer Treatment Level I; or the willingness to pursue this specialized education</li><li>Minimum one-year experience in similar setting</li><li>Ability to work independently as well as within a team</li><li>Strong oral and written communication skills with computer competency in MS Office</li><li>Approachable and polite manner with the ability to mediate and problem solve</li><li>Flexible, resourceful and able to adapt to a changing environment</li><li>Valid Class 3 driver's license with Q endorsement</li><li>Proven ability to repair Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Storm Sewer piping and appurtenances is an asset</li><li>Heavy equipment experience especially in water & sewer work (loader, hi-hoe, backhoe loader) is an asset</li><li>Training in Ground Disturbance, Confined Space Entry, H2S and Fall Protection is considered an asset</li><li>Load securement and First Aid training are considered an asset</li></ul><p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p><ul><li>Subject to working in an outdoor environment – heat, cold, dry, dusty and/or wet conditions as well as insects, bees and wildlife</li><li>Moderate amounts of physical effort including bending, lifting, and walking</li><li>Use and operation of a variety of vehicles including trucks, Hydrovac</li><li>Regular exposure to water treatment chemicals</li><li>Safe operation and use of vehicles</li><li>Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs may be required</li><li>Normal working day consists of 8 hours; however occasional overtime may be required</li></ul><p>HEALTH & SAFETY</p><ul><li>All employees of the Town of Coaldale are governed by and must be compliant with the Town of Coaldale Safety Program.</li><li>Ensure all operations are performed in a safe manner and in accordance with the Town of Coaldale policies, as well as the law as set forth by Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Act.</li><li>Correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all times as per safe job procedures.</li></ul><p>WHY THE TOWN OF COALDALE?</p><ul><li>Competitive pay, with annual increases;</li><li>100% employer-paid benefits (excluding long-term disability)</li><li>A strong focus on workplace safety</li><li>A generous safety gear allowance including $250 annually for footwear, and employer-provided PPE (coveralls, high-vis vests, safety glasses, and so on)</li><li>Growth opportunities: certifications, courses, meaningful mentorship, and more</li><li>Team bonding done right: monthly breakfast meetings where we come together as an organization and celebrate success; seasonal celebrations; and long-service awards.</li></ul><p>Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract</p><p>Pay: $31.42-$34.34 per hour</p><p>Benefits:</p><ul><li>Company events</li><li>Company pension</li><li>Dental care</li><li>Disability insurance</li><li>Employee assistance program</li><li>Extended health care</li><li>Life insurance</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Vision care</li><li>Wellness program</li></ul><p>Work Location: In person</p>
