<h3><b>About the Role</b></h3>
<p>The Technical / Software Engineering Lead provides architectural direction, technical leadership, and cross-team guidance to ensure scalable, maintainable, and high-quality software delivery. This role extends beyond a single team’s execution, influencing systems and solutions that span multiple product areas or domains. This role will combine deep hands‑on technical expertise with mentorship, strategic thinking, and oversight of engineering practices.</p>
<p>This role will play a key part in defining system architecture, leading technical design, improving engineering standards, and enabling teams to deliver resilient and well‑structured solutions.</p>
<p><b>Location of Work:</b> Centre 15, 300 - 1509 Centre St SW, Calgary, AB T2G 2E6</p>
<p><b>Classification:</b> Permanent, Full-time (40 hours per week), Hybrid work arrangement</p>
<ul>
<li>Set broad technical direction for the team and its adjacent domains, ensuring systems align with enterprise architecture and long-term strategy.</li>
<li>Lead architectural discussions, evaluate design trade-offs, and ensure solutions meet scalability, security, and performance requirements.</li>
<li>Maintain expertise across multiple services and systems; ensure new features integrate cohesively with existing architecture.</li>
<li>Identify technical risks early and influence roadmap decisions with clear, well‑reasoned recommendations.</li>
<li>Ensure high‑quality system design that reduces duplication, prevents breaking changes, and enforces strong boundaries.</li>
<li>Establish and uphold engineering principles, design standards, and patterns across teams.</li>
<li>Partner with architects to guide modernization, refactoring, and long‑term technical evolution.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Debugging, Observability & Incident Leadership</h3>
<ul>
<li>Lead incident response across the engineering organization for issues impacting multiple systems or services.</li>
<li>Apply advanced, systematic debugging practices to diagnose complex, multi‑team problems.</li>
<li>Coach teams on improving observability—instrumentation, logging, metrics, alerting—and ensure operational readiness.</li>
<li>Drive stability and performance improvements through proactive monitoring strategies.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Testing Quality & Framework Stewardship</h3>
<ul>
<li>Drive organization‑wide testing strategy and ensure alignment with approved frameworks and quality expectations.</li>
<li>Ensure the right mix of testing approaches (unit, integration, end‑to‑end) across teams.</li>
<li>Support teams in adopting automated testing and enforcing testing standards in all new work.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Delivery & Execution Leadership</h3>
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with product leaders and Technical Program Managers on sequencing, estimation, and technical planning.</li>
<li>Ensure dependencies between teams are clearly understood and managed effectively.</li>
<li>Identify blockers early and work with teams and leadership to remove obstacles to delivery.</li>
<li>Guide teams through ambiguity, change, and risk with clarity and structure.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Team Collaboration & Cross‑Functional Influence</h3>
<ul>
<li>Act as a central technical point of alignment for multiple teams, improving communication across domains.</li>
<li>Provide technical leadership that scales beyond a single product stream, influencing solutions at the organizational level.</li>
<li>Foster strong relationships with business stakeholders, ensuring technical decisions support business value.</li>
<li>Mentor other Developers and QA.</li>
<li>Support skill development through coaching, pairing, and structured knowledge sharing.</li>
<li>Promote documentation, knowledge transfer, and redundancy across teams</li>
</ul>
<h3><b>Education & Experience</b></h3>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; OR equivalent practical experience and training.</li>
<li>7+ years of total software engineering experience.</li>
<li>Evidence of continuous learning (e.g., recent certifications, bootcamps, or open‑source contributions).</li>
</ul>
<h3><b>Technical Requirements</b></h3>
<ul>
<li>Expert‑level proficiency in C#, .NET, React, SQL Server, and distributed/cloud architectures.</li>
<li>Deep understanding of system‑level design, API strategies, microservices, and domain boundaries.</li>
<li>Strong capability in diagnosing complex issues spanning multiple systems.</li>
<li>Experience with observability tools, performance tuning, and reliability engineering.</li>
<li>Strong grounding in CI/CD, automation, testing frameworks, and DevOps practices.</li>
<li>Ability to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies based on business and architectural needs.</li>
</ul>
<h3><b>Non‑Technical Requirements</b></h3>
<ul>
<li>Excellent communication skills; able to explain technical decisions to senior leadership and business stakeholders.</li>
<li>Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence without authority.</li>
<li>Skilled at navigating ambiguity and providing structure and direction.</li>
<li>High level of ownership and accountability; takes responsibility for technical outcomes across teams.</li>
<li>Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and engineering excellence.</li>
