ABOUT THE ROLE
Supporting the implementation and operation of construction layout processes on projects across the enterprise, as well as leading layout and field verification efforts using innovative field technologies. The Surveyor should be a flexible, detail-oriented individual that will thrive performing in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, with the ability to multi-task, produce quality deliverables, and meet project-based deadlines.
This position will share time worked between the Burlington, Ontario office, and on-site at designated project site(s) within the greater Toronto area.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field layout and verification using innovative technologies at project jobsites.
- Study and analyze construction drawings and shop drawings to confirm layout dimensions and elevations.
- Observe and comply with all safety and project policies.
- Inform Superintendent of any variations and assist personnel with layout understanding.
- Prepare documentation of surveying activities.
- Survey, verify and mark actual lines and elevations using various instruments.
- Verify as-built conditions and provide topographic and cross-section surveys.
- Lead the survey crew and train junior surveyors.
- Serve as an ambassador for efforts and services internally/externally.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours due to project constraints.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5+ years relevant construction experience in layout and/or surveying
- Preferred experience with robotic total stations, GPS instruments, and other surveying tools.
- Thorough understanding of surveying calculations and techniques.
- Associate’s degree or coursework in construction management, engineering, or architecture a plus.
- ICI construction experience preferred.
- Experience with Bluebeam, Procore, Microsoft Office, and VDC technologies a plus.
- Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) experience a plus.
- Ability to lift/carry equipment (10–30 pounds) and work on feet in construction environments.
- Excellent mathematical and communication skills.
