<p>Part-Time Support Assistant Needed - Orillia</p><p>Looking for an easy going and thoughtful individual to assist a 30-year-old man in strengthening his independence in his family home. Significant to this position is a background knowledge and/or lived experience with Type 1 diabetes and an insulin pump. This role would be best suited for someone who is flexible, reliable and can provide thoughtful and sensitive support. As his supportive assistant, you possess a willingness to learn, have strong observation and communication skills and can follow the lead and direction of the person.</p><p>The family is currently looking for weekly coverage with a starting rate of $25-28 an hour, depending on experience and qualifications.</p><p>**This is a self-employed Independent Contract Support Worker position. This position works directly with the family and all scheduling and training is delivered by the family.</p><p>Description of Role</p><p>The role of the Support Assistant would be to assist the person toward greater self-management of his diabetes while enhancing his proficiency in diabetes related technology and/or tools.</p><p>Qualifications/Requirements</p><ul><li>Up to date skills, knowledge, and/or lived experience in diabetes management, including pumps.</li><li>2 years of experience in Diabetes Care of adults living with diabetes or newly diagnosed is required.</li><li>Awareness of and sensitivity to health issues particularly within populations who face barriers to accessing care such as mental health challenges or diagnoses, and disability.</li><li>Ability to coach, advocate and promote the voice of the person</li><li>Energetic, motivated, is fully present and a positive influence</li><li>T akes a 'doing with', not 'doing for' approach to support</li><li>Strong communication and problem-solving skills are required</li><li>Current and satisfactory criminal records check including a vulnerable sector search.</li><li>Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is preferred- mileage will be compensated.</li><li>Openness to learning and working in a collaborative environment</li><li>Certification and training in CPR and First Aid are an asset.</li><li>Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.</li></ul><p>Job Type: 2-4 hrs per week</p><p>Salary: $ per hour</p><p>Experience: supportive care: 2 years (required)</p><p>Licence/Certification: Vulnerable Sector Check (required)</p><p>Work Location: In person, Orillia, L3V 7Y7</p><p>Job Type: Part-time</p><p>Pay: $25.00-$28.00 per hour</p><p>Expected hours: 2 – 4 per week</p><p>Work Location: In person</p>
