About the Role:

Reporting into the Director, Employee Relations & Policy, the Sr Manager, Total Rewards, Compensation and Benefits is responsible for developing, executing, and leading, the MLHC Total Rewards, Compensation and Benefits strategy.

What you will be doing:

  • Implement and manage the strategy as well as oversee the day-to-day operations of the Compensation and Benefits and Total Rewards system.
  • Actively monitor trends in the competitive market with a strong understanding of external comparative organizational structures, ensuring both compensation designs and pay level opportunities support the attraction and retention of qualified talent.
  • Partners with vendors and stay informed and current on local laws, as well as legislative changes impacting employee benefits and proactively manage processes and programs to remain compliant.
  • Manage the compensation process by ensuring process guidelines/ framework are communicated to leaders, processes completed on time.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on compensation strategies that attract and retain top talent.
  • Continuous review of the Compensation framework including compensation benchmarking, job evaluations and job pay band analysis and market evaluation.
  • Ensure that compensation practices comply with collective bargaining agreements and current legislation, such as pay equity and the Employment Standards Act (ESA), to mitigate risks and maintain compliance.
  • Plan Administrator for Maple Lodge Farms Ltd.

    Registered Pension Plan and Registered Pension Plan for Specified UFCW Local 175 Employees of Maple Lodge Farms Ltd. and other MLF related companies pension plans.
  • Is a member of the Pension Committee. Consults with the Pension Committee members & Consultant, FSRA and Sunlife. Reviews of all required reports for FSRA (AIR), Annual Form 7s, Executive Team & external auditors.
  • Provide consultative services on matters of benefit policy rationale, interpretation, and application, including contract review, educational materials, and employee presentations.
  • Key contact with Benefits Consultants (HUB) on all Company benefit plans – administration, design, implementation, and communication of plans.
  • Accountable for cost/benefit analysis, gap analysis and preparation of proposals for annual policy renewals and business case approval by Executives.
  • Ensure benefits are set up appropriately, updated as required annually and as required in ADP and maintained and monitored on a regular basis ensuring data accuracy. and including doing market evaluations.
  • Approval of benefit invoices prior to payment processing.
  • Participates in the non- occupational illness and injury process which includes managing all related documentation, preparing return to work plans and attendance time keeping for salary paid, short term and long-term disability absences.

    Will partner with the Senior Manager of Return to Work &Claims, H&S Ergonomist and the Human Resources Business Partners as required.
  • Partner on the administration and payment of annual rewards and merit increases.
  • Give recommendations to the business areas regarding department budget by conducting analysis and preparing data to support requested budget.
  • Manage a team of individuals.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the team including hiring, onboarding, performance management and disciplinary matters.

What you will bring:

  • Post Graduate Degree in a related field.
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation required.
  • Minimum eight, plus years of experience in Compensation and Benefits required; including a minimum of ten years of management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Total Rewards strategy and program design and execution including health benefits, retirement, pensions, merit, incentive plans, and compensation design.
  • A high degree of initiative and the ability to focus, prioritize and action multiple projects with conflicting deadlines.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, including the ability to build strong working relationships with many individuals across the Company and among external advisors and vendors.
  • Experienced in disability management principles, including understanding medical information such as functional limitations to assist in the RTW processes and accommodations.
  • Subject matter expert for Compensation and Benefits, and other legislative requirements as per the HRCO and the ESA.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, presentation and communication skills to effectively deal with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work / excel in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and effective multi-tasking is essential.
  • Analytical, with problem-identification and problem-solving capabilities.
