The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC. Position title: Social Media Coordinator (Work Learn) Department: Marketing & Communications Reports to: Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications Anticipated Start Date: Immediate Anticipated End Date: August 29, 2025 Hours per week: Up to 20 hours Compensation: $21.17 per hour Position Purpose The Social Media Coordinator works cross-functionally across the AMS to brainstorm, create, and promote content on the organization’s various social media channels. The ideal candidate is confident, respectful, fun, passionate about digital media, and brings great ideas and thinking to the position every day. By planning, creating, and executing content that’s engaging and meaningful to students, the Social Media Coordinator plays a huge part in helping students have a great UBC experience. This position will report to the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications, but managed day-to-day by the Marketing Specialist and Marketing Content Coordinator. Duties and Responsibilities In addition to bringing a passion for digital storytelling and your understanding of student life to the role, you will: * Participate in weekly planning meetings * Contribute to the social media calendar * Pitch stories, ideas and prepare social media plans * Write, design, and proofread content for publication * Upload and edit content on the AMS’ social media channels * Create clear, relatable, and authentic communications for the intended audience * Use social media analytics to determine appropriate time and frequency of posting * Directly engage with students to create first-person style content Qualifications * You must be a currently registered UBC Student * You have experience in digital marketing, brand development, and/or social media * You think creatively and always looking for ways to apply your ideas to your work * You can take initiative and work independently while also working as part of a team * You can research, project plan, and pitch new ideas * You can follow directions and respond well to feedback, particularly editorial feedback on pieces you’ve developed * Experience with graphic design software, photography and video production would be an asset * Experience with WeChat and Redbook would be an asset.
