Our client is a mid-sized civil construction company with a long-standing presence in the Lower Mainland, specializing in foundations, ground improvements, excavation, and shoring. They are seeking an experienced Shop & Equipment Manager to join their team in Surrey, BC. This is a great opportunity to lead and optimize equipment operations across multiple active projects while working closely with ownership in a collaborative and stable environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the equipment yard and shop, ensuring all drilling and excavation equipment is maintained, repaired, and operating safely
- Manage maintenance schedules, service coordination, and equipment deployment to minimize project disruptions
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, condition, repairs, and parts inventory
- Supervise internal mechanics and subcontractors, ensuring proper licensing, training, and performance management
- Coordinate with vendors and approve shop-related invoices, POs, and cost coding through systems like Eclipse and SiteMax
- Conduct regular site visits to verify equipment condition and support preventative maintenance efforts
- Report directly to ownership, contributing to monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reviews and budget planning
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in equipment maintenance and shop operations, preferably in civil construction
- Previous experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or similar, with either leadership experience or interest in stepping into a management role.
- Strong knowledge of drilling and excavation equipment, such as hydro drills, air drills, and loaders
- Proficiency in computer systems for equipment tracking, invoicing, and vendor coordination
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage both people and priorities effectively
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience managing shop staff and subcontractors
