*Position: Senior R&D Electrical Designer – (Distribution & Medium Power Transformer)*<br />CES Transformer is a growing transformer manufacturer located in Markham, Ontario. We are looking for a full-time *Senior R&D Electrical Designer* to add to our motivated, entrepreneurial, and energetic team.<br />In partnership with our employees, we challenge the status quo to develop smarter, more efficient, customizable, and innovative solutions that positively impact our customers, employees, and communities we serve.<br />Our engineering and project management disciplines ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable delivery of projects to North America.<br />CES Transformers has been deemed an essential business, operating through the pandemic.<br />*About the role:* Reporting to the Director of R&D, you will play a key role in driving innovation, research and development initiatives across the company. This role involves managing the entire lifecycle of R&D projects, from concept to commercialization, focusing on new product development, design optimization, standardization, cost reduction, and performance enhancement across our distribution and medium power transformer portfolio.<br />*Key Responsibilities:*<br />* Design and develop innovative, cost-effective and reliable single and three phase liquid immersed transformers in compliance with industry standards (e.G., IEEE, CSA, IEC) and CES product development guidelines.<br />* Solve complex technical challenges using FEM/BEM and other design simulation tools.<br />* Oversee R&D project execution from concept through to production, ensuring adherence to timelines, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.<br />* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, scheduling, QA/testing) to ensure smooth product integration.<br />* Drive redesign and reengineering initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance performance using industry best practices and emerging technologies.<br />* Conduct risk assessments (e.G., FMEA) and proactively mitigate potential project risks.<br />* Design active parts, including various transformer core and winding configurations.<br />* Maintain project milestones and technical documentation as per PLM guidelines.<br />* Technical support for manufacturing during the introduction of new products /processes and witness type and special testing of prototype transformers.<br />* Active participation in industry standards development activities (e.G., IEEE, CSA).<br />* Contribute to intellectual property (IP) discussions, evaluate innovative concepts, and support patent strategies to protect proprietary technologies.<br />* Stay current with industry advancements, applying insights to drive innovation and improve product performance and reliability.<br />*Qualification, Skills and Experiences *<br />* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical /Mechanical engineering, or a related field.<br />* Professional Engineering designation in Ontario (“P.Eng.”) is preferred.<br />* 8-10 years of electrical design experience in Distribution or power transformer engineering and manufacturing environment.<br />* Proven experience in project management, product innovation, and transitioning from concept to production.<br />* Expertise in transformer design software, FEM tools and engineering calculations.<br />* Strong understanding of R&D methodologies, prototyping, and commercialization.<br />* In-depth technical knowledge of high-voltage transformer specifications & protection systems.<br />* Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and complex technical projects.<br />* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.<br />* High level of professionalism, integrity and a commitment to continuous improvement.<br />*Why join us? *<br />CES is a very well-established company (35+ years in business).
