As a Senior Engineer, you will provide technical leadership , overseeing engineering design, interpretation, and authentication of professional work products prepared by you or your team. This role ensures compliance with health, safety, environmental, reliability, and customer requirements while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders . You will manage projects to meet customer, regulatory, and EPCOR standards—on time and on budget.</p><h3>Customer Engineering Services Team</h3><p>This team focuses on delivering safe, reliable, and innovative solutions for new and upgraded customer power connections. We work closely with customers and internal partners to ensure projects meet regulatory standards and exceed expectations. If you thrive on collaboration and technical leadership, you’ll find this team rewarding.</p><h3>Distribution Lifecycle Engineering Team</h3><p>This team manages the full lifecycle of EPCOR’s distribution infrastructure—from design and construction to maintenance and renewal. Our work ensures the integrity and reliability of the electrical system that powers communities. If you excel in technical precision combined with operational excellence , this could be the role for you.</p><p>These positions may be eligible for EPCOR’s hybrid work program.</p><p>What you’d be responsible for</p><ul><li>Oversee all aspects of engineering for new or upgraded customer power connections or lifecycle distribution projects</li><li>Authenticate engineering designs, standards, and specifications; recommend modifications and new approaches</li><li>Lead electrical distribution design projects, procure materials, issue and approve work orders, and oversee field inspections and contractor performance</li><li>Set project priorities and engineering execution plans, including work package issuance dates, employee work assignments, and managing schedule and workflow across teams</li><li>Promote innovation and continuous improvement in design practices and solutions while championing necessary Management of Change initiatives</li><li>Guide designers to perform stakeholder-level review of engineering designs with operations and field employees to ensure constructability and system compatibility</li><li>Mentor and coach engineers, designers, co-op students, and technical staff; identify development needs and deliver targeted training programs</li><li>Establish, monitor, measure, and report performance metrics related to engineering designs and work packages</li><li>Develop, implement, and review engineering processes, guidelines, or manuals and create plans to ensure compliance</li><li>Manage complex customer relationships and ensure positive outcomes throughout projects</li><li>Build and maintain partnerships with internal teams and industry stakeholders</li><li>Stay current on best practices and promote a safety-focused culture</li><li>Provide sign-off on behalf of the Distribution Facility Operator (DFO) for Interconnection Agreements</li><li>Ensure compliance with regulatory codes (CSA, Alberta Electrical Utility Code, Canadian Electrical Code) and EPCOR standards.</li></ul><p>What’s required to be successful</p><ul><li>Degree or d iploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institute.</li><li>With a d egree we require:<ul><li>Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)</li></ul></li><li>With a d iploma we require:<ul><li>Professional Licensee ( P.L. Eng.) with the ability to review, approve and stamp electrical distribution system designs and/or utility construction designs</li></ul></li><li>Currently registered or eligible to be registered with APEGA</li><li>8 + years of professional/supervisory experience in electrical distribution systems including design and construction methods, procedures, and work practices in aerial and underground distribution systems</li><li>Familiarity with Alberta Electric Utility Code, Canadian Electrical Code, CSA standards, and City of Edmonton Design & Construction Standards</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Electric Office or other GIS systems, IVARA, and/or other work management tools such as MS Project or Power BI</li><li>Strong diagnostic skills required to manage complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions</li><li>Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and manage budgets</li><li>Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills to advise, mentor, and influence internal and external stakeholders</li><li>Excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills</li></ul><p>Other important facts about this job</p><p>Jurisdiction: PROF</p><p>Hours of work: 80 hours biweekly</p><p>EPCOR employees: please ensure that you are using your “ @epcor.com ” email address.</p><ul><li>A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)</li><li>If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.</li><li>A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.</li><li>To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.</li></ul>
