Job Function:

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Design Engineer will play a crucial role in leading and executing various engineering projects from conception to completion. They will be responsible for applying technical expertise to design innovative mechanical systems while also overseeing project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful delivery. They apply engineering principles to practical situations, assisting in the design, development, and maintenance of various technologies. Main responsibilities include designing and drafting prototypes and maintaining product upgrades; however, there will also be requirements for analyzing data, building and improving processes, troubleshooting technical issues, and collaborating with coworkers to develop and implement appropriate solutions.

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for keeping informed of all applicable health, safety, environmental and processes associated with this job function and completing required competency training for the job function.


Job Roles:

Lead the design and development of Downhole Completion Tools (DCTs), components, and products from concept through production.


Conduct thorough analysis and evaluation of designs to ensure compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software engineers, and manufacturing specialists, to integrate mechanical designs seamlessly into overall project objectives.

Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources effectively to meet project milestones and deliverables.

Identify and mitigate risks proactively, addressing any issues that may arise during the project lifecycle.


Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Communicate project updates, progress reports, and technical insights to stakeholders, including management, clients, and external partners

Maintain document control using established documentation management systems

Collaborate across different departments of the organization for product troubleshooting and quality improvement


Prepare conceptual and detailed designs for DCTs and R&D test equipment

Utilize SolidWorks CAD to create 3D models and engineering designs of DCT technologies


Prepare drawings, assemblies, and bills of material from models and sketches according to ASME Y14.5 standard

Compile and organize design documentation for new and existing equipment


Support submission of Engineering Change Notice (ECN) and Engineering Change Request (ECR) documentation

Revise engineering designs and configure product upgrades to meet specifications and applications

Perform research, development and engineering of new products, upgrades and enhancements

Create reports and summaries of R&D projects and results


Consistent demonstration of good health, safety, and environmental practices

Asks questions and makes suggestions on improvements and adjustments to optimize procedures

Participate in research and development for protype testing and assembly when required

Such other duties as assigned by Interra from time to time


Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Minimum of 5 years experience in downhole completion tool mechanical design, with a strong portfolio showcasing successful projects and innovative solutions.

Proficiency in SolidWorks software and other engineering analysis tools.


Demonstrated expertise in project management methodologies and techniques, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.



Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) license is a plus.

Pay: $120,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
