WTW – Risk & Broking (R&B) North America are looking to recruit an individual for the role of Senior Construction Broker in our Montreal office. WTW is seeking a candidate with proven expertise in Builder’s Risk and Wrap Up Liability placement. Understanding of other key construction related coverages an asset. Whilst located in Montreal, this is a national opportunity to work with all of our four Canadian offices and be part of the North American leading construction team.

This role will focus primarily on project placements. Responsibilities will include technical and contractual exposure analysis, underwriting information review, wholesome submission creation, development and execution of placement strategies, evaluating coverage offerings from carriers and presenting evaluation to the clients, assists regional teams with RFP and new business proposal development and performs other duties as assigned.

The Role

The Broker is recognized by the client, client advocate team and the insurance marketplace as the day-to-day broker, negotiating terms and conditions of variousConstruction coverage’s on behalf of clients.

The Responsibilities

  • Manages brokerage responsibilities for construction placements.
  • Provide knowledge, leadership, insight and direction for construction broking activities to ensure that clients’ expectations are met.
  • Maintain a visible position in the market while cultivating key relationships.
  • Evaluate all solutions to identify and develop optimum risk solutions for clients.
  • Create and execute broking strategy and market negotiations for project specific coverages.
  • Review of project information documentation, including review of contractual insurance recommendation, to create a wholesome submission aligned with strategy.
  • Negotiate with carriers to establish the best terms and conditions with respect to premiums and coverage
  • Receipt of quotes from carriers and creation of coverage comparison.
  • Bind carrier quotes and review binders and coverage confirmations.
  • Interaction with all key stakeholders: clients, carriers, WTW team members, and other third party vendors
  • Work closely with associates from other departments that support the broking process (e.g., analytics, claims).


Qualifications:

  • Preferred 10 years insurance experience with minimum 3-5 years in construction broking
  • Bilingual : strong oral and written communication skills in English and French
  • Licenses as required by provincial law (Candidate will be required to obtain broker licenses in most provinces across Canada)
  • Construction-specific experience from a project specific perspective
  • Adaptable to working effectively as a team or independently with the ability to adjust to tight and changing priorities and deadlines
  • Demonstrated excellence in negotiation skills and influence skills are critical
  • Attention to detail and refined organizational skills and ability to muli-task.
  • Solid presentation skills-written or oral
  • Ability to understand client and technical issues and capability to solve
  • Leadership skills: ability to make decisions and support them; ability to take control of own work; ability to seek guidance and coordinate with others when needed.
  • Insurance Technical skills; demonstrates knowledge of core insurance principles. Understands coverage forms and principles.
  • Excellent communication skills: Ability to interface with customers, collaborate internally with teammates to serve customers and interact and negotiate with carriers.
