The Cardiac Ambulatory Clinic is located at the Hamilton General Hospital. The Cardiac Ambulatory Clinic, as administrated by the Cardiac & Vascular Program, is comprised of multiple clinics including Comprehensive Cardiology Service, Heart Function Clinic, Arrhythmia Services, Device Clinic, Structural Valve and Cardiac Surgery. The RPN works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide support for patients with cardiology specific issues. The interdisciplinary team is comprised of physicians, nurses, technologists and allied health. Assessment, treatment and counselling are offered as part of patient care.

As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Practical Nurse assesses, coordinates, provides and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the health care team in the clinic. The RPN will participate in continued education and completion and maintenance of certifications associated with the identified nursing skills and completed learning plans to achieve these goals.

1. Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse 
2. Current certificates or current community college studies in asepsis, wound care, airway management, complex wound care, physical assessment, , medication administration (including Intravenous), and transcribing physician orders 
3. Minimum 2 years nursing experience (within the last 2 years) in acute care – cardiac and vascular area of practice preferred 
4. Demonstrated skills in IV starts, ECG and pacemaker rhythm interpretation/treatment 
5. Completion of a Critical Practice Orientation (ABG interpretation, adult code blue management, shock) 
6. Documented completion of a recognized IV administration and IV Management, Venipuncture and Blood and Blood Products Administration course 
7. Current BCLS Certificate 
8. Demonstrated ability to function within an interdisciplinary team including nursing collaboration with RN, Allied Health, Physicians and other members of the health care team 
9. Demonstrated ability to function in environments that are fast-paced and that have moderately complex care requirements 
10. Demonstrated ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with patients, families, and other members of the health care team 
11. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work in response to patient needs 
12. Demonstrated knowledge of transfers and lifts protocols/practices
