About The Emergency Department
Mount Sinai Hospital’s Emergency Department is dedicated to delivering family-centered emergency care to the community, with approximately 61,000 annual visits. The care delivery system operates on a modified Primary Nursing model, and medical directives have been established to encourage and uphold autonomous nursing practice within the emergency specialty. Prioritizing nursing orientation, we have customized it to address the specific needs of individual nurses.
In This Role You Will
- Triage incoming patients, prioritizing based on severity
- Administer medications and perform medical procedures such as wound care and intravenous line placement
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing education on diagnoses and treatment plans
- Document patient information accurately and maintain organized medical equipment
- Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on the latest medical advancements and emergency protocols
- Demonstrate adaptability, quick decision-making, and effective communication in handling emergencies
Job Requirements
Mandatory
- Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- As a condition of hire, the ACLS course must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire
Preferred
- A baccalaureate degree from a CNO-approved nursing program. Applicants in their final year or near completion will be considered
- 1-2 years’ experience in Medical / Surgical or Adult Critical Care nursing
- Recent Emergency Department or Medical / Surgical Step-Down Unit experience
- Successful completion of a Coronary Care 1 course
