About the Role:
By managing strategic projects/portfolios, the Project Manager (PM) plays an integral role within Maple Lodge Farm’s (MLF’s) continuous improvement department (COOP).
The PM will apply proven skills to manage cross-functional teams in predictive, agile and hybrid project frameworks and must be proficient at conflict resolution, stakeholder engagement, managing and motivating teams, utilizing traditional waterfall and scrum frameworks, identifying project requirements/stories, schedule development, procurement, meeting quality, risk management, and change management, to ensure product/project success.

What you will be doing:
Project Management Governance:
- Building trust, exhibiting flexibility, and other behavioral controls to facilitate effective teamwork and decision-making
- Focus on the needs and goals specific to managing a project/portfolio, including defining governance structures, roles, and responsibilities
- Regular reviews and updates to the Governance Framework to help adapt to change
- Leading retrospectives, documenting lessons learned, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with organizational objectives is critical to the success of the PM
- Work closely with project sponsor to ensure full transparency of project progress, challenges and blockers
Project Management Team Leadership:
- Creation of Project Management Plans: project scope, scheduling, cost, quality, resources, communications, risk, procurement, stakeholders, change, lifecycle, constraints (scope, schedule and cost most critically)
- Stakeholder identification, analysis and engagement
- Team motivation techniques such as, Vision Communication, Encouragement/recognition, Empowerment, Positive Work Environment, Clear Goals/Expectations and Team Building Activities
- Conflict resolution (collaboration, smoothing/accommodating, forcing/directing, withdrawal and compromise/reconciliation)
- Formation and management of project teams and creation of Project Charter; seeking cross-functional members, applying RASCI, Responsibility Assignment Matrix
- Familiar with the 10 Team Leadership Styles, such as Servant Leadership, Transformational, Charismatic, Authentic, etc.
- Awareness of the 8 Project Management Performance Domains: delivery, work creation, measurement, planning etc.
Project Tracking & Monitoring:
- Understanding the use of KPIs such as Agile Velocity, SMART KPIs, Earned Value/Management, Actual Cost, Planned Value, Benefit-Cost ratio, Net Present Value, IRR ROI (payback period simple and discounted payback period)
- Experienced in the application of Control Charts, Run Charts
- Working knowledge of scheduling, precedence and dependency such as Finish-Start, Start-Start etc.
- Project phase execution as well as Lead, Lag and Float time as well as Critical Path identification
- Network Diagrams, Gantt Charts (MS Project), Roadmap and Milestone Charts
- Resource Optimization through Smoothing and Leveling
- Schedule Compression (i.e. Critical Path time reduction) through Fast-Tracking and Crashing
- Skilled at Change Management (i.e. Change Readiness Audits, Stakeholder Analysis, Training and Development of team, Resistance Management Plans)
- Maintenance of the information regarding project progress (Visible Charts, Product Vision, Product Backlog/Release Plan, Sprint Backlog, Impediment list and other blockers)
Project Prioritization:
- Provide sponsor with the information needed to assess which proposals have the highest potential value, impact and strategic alignment with MLF
- Interface with colleagues and sponsor to define project priorities and implementation opportunities and challenges, and keep them up to date with project risks and opportunities
- Use tools such as Value Proposition, Business Model Canvas and Product Vision Statement in Business Case documentation
- Creation of Business Case document, Triple bottom line (3BL), SWOT, Enterprise Environmental Factors (EEF) and Organizational Process Assets (OPA) and other artifacts
- Estimating techniques such as Bottom-up, Top-down (analogous/parametric/3 point)
SR&ED/ITC Accountability:
- Seek out opportunities that are both strategically aligned with MLF’s mission and vision and are good candidates for governmental assistance
- Maintain detailed and readily deployable documentation that concisely connects how projects/portfolios align to SR&ED requirements
What you will bring:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction project management, change management and knowledge of continuous improvement
- Experience with food processing/manufacturing projects
- Strong understanding of construction processes, building codes, and industry standards.
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in Engineering, Construction or related fields
- Change Management and PMP designations
- Six Sigma certification is an asset
- Strong understanding of process improvement and project management methodologies, along with hands on experience in change management models (e.g.
ADKAR, Kotter, etc.) - Experience in leading projects that require initiative and the ability to influence change in a positive way.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and tactfully, as well as work on a cross functional team project.
- Ability to multi-task and attention to detail with extreme accuracy
- Technical skills balanced with a high degree of social intelligence
- Ability to step out of comfort zone and readily accept unique challenges
- Willingness to embrace constructive criticism as a building block to personal growth
- An agile perspective that supports the businesses short-term needs as well as the company’s long-term strategic goals
- Advanced computer skills (e.g. MS Office) and statistical analysis skills
- Ability to motivate, influence and coach
- Ability to gain commitment at all levels of the organization & defend findings to senior management
- Proven track record to efficiently present key elements of a project in relation to the audience’s need
