The Project Engineer is responsible for managing the development and execu ti on of cri ti cal capital engineering projects related to plant opera ti ons and expansions using state-of-the-art technologies. The Manufacturing Project Engineer creates, develops and deploys new processes and equipment at McCain’s. The position will work with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization to successfully deploy projects to ensure a smooth transition ensuring that the plant is prepared for project start up and handover.

Essen ti al Du ti es & Responsibili ti es:

  • Oversee the design and review of equipment and systems using corporate standards.
  • Interface with production, maintenance, safety, quality and engineers to de fi ne project scope requirements and incorporate corporate standards.
  • Collaborate with both internal and external project and resource teams to drive projects from inception to launch
  • Evaluate new process technologies to improve exis ti ng systems and resolve process and safety problems.
  • Work with fi nance, produc ti on, and safety to develop jus tifi ca ti ons for capital projects and prepare the Requests for Expenditure Authoriza ti on (REAs) in a ti mely and accurate fashion.
  • Acquire and nego ti ate project contractor bids in conjunc ti on with procurement.
  • Prepare project speci fi ca ti ons and/or tender documents.
  • Manage release of design input to suppliers (contractors, component suppliers, etc.).
  • Perform supplier site visits to ensure compa ti bility of equipment designs with current plant con fi gura ti ons.
  • Produce site visit reports, contractor job mee ti ng minutes, project material lis ti ngs, purchase orders, installa ti on schedules and prepara ti on of any other documenta ti on rela ti ng to installa ti on of systems.
  • Assist in the development of new installa ti on techniques and standards.
  • Manage capital projects mee ti ng deadlines and budgets. Iden ti fy and e ff ec ti vely u ti lize project resources.
  • Manage the resolu ti on of technical issues iden tifi ed by suppliers.
  • Manage technical documents provided by suppliers.
  • Provide technical assistance to processing facili ti es, to improve quality and e ffi ciency. Support, Manage, and Facilitate continuous improvements within facility
  • Minor to Moderate Supervision Required
  • other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (ME/EE/IE/ChE) or related fi eld from an accredited university.
  • Ability to registered as an engineer in APEGA
  • Registered as a Professional engineer in Alberta is preferred
  • Addi ti onally it is preferred the incumbent have up to fi ve (5) years of experience directly related to food processing and project management. Familiarity with processing techniques.
  • Experienced in the development and maintenance of plant system documents, process fl ow sheets, block diagrams, schedules and spend tracking.
  • Experience using AutoCAD.
