In this role, you will:

Provide structural analysis and shock Subject Matter Expertise (SME) support to projects and designs related to the Victoria Class Submarines, and other marine platforms, ensuring the designs meet the required Naval combat captivity and survivability criteria.
Technically support multidisciplinary teams to develop the installation design and integration of new and replacement equipment on Naval and marine platforms.
Identify structural and shock risks, impacts, mitigations, and opportunities as applicable to support effective project execution.
Complete and oversee, when necessary, a variety of technical and non-technical activities, including proposals for new work, feasibility studies, concept designs, drawings, and calculations.
Provide technical leadership and oversight to intermediate and junior engineers as well as technologists.
Communicate engineering subjects, issues, solutions, and risks effectively to all stakeholders (i.e. technical and non-technical stakeholders).
Develop an in-depth knowledge of shock and structural standards, including Canadian, UK, and US standards, applicable to the shock and structural analysis of the VCS and other marine platforms.

The ideal candidate brings:

A Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) license in good standing with current registration or immediate eligibility to register in province of work.
An Engineering degree in a Mechanical, Marine, Naval Architecture or other applicable discipline (Master’s or PhD degree desirable).
10+ years of relevant experience as an Engineer (Mechanical, Marine, Structural), Naval Architect, or an allied position in a related complex and safety critical industry.
6+ years of design and integration experience, with demonstrated professional competence to oversee the development of a technical solution to a specified requirement.
6+ years experience conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) including Linear / Non-linear Static and Transient Dynamic, Modal, Design Response Spectra (DRS), and Contact analyses.
Experience with LS-DYNA, LS-PREPOST, ANSYS or other equivalent FEA codes and toolsets.
Recent and extensive experience designing for fabrication using steel and aluminum, ideally in the marine environment.
Strong mathematical and logical reasoning skills.
Superior verbal and written communication skills, including authoring and reviewing formal reports, making presentations, and providing technical mentorship.
Experience identifying design risks and developing mitigation strategies.
Experience with the following UK, US and Canadian shock standards considered will be considered an asset: BR3021, MAP 01-470, MIL-DTL-901E, CFTO D-03-003-007/SG-000.
Knowledge of Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI), UNDEX, and shock theory would be considered an asset.
Experience with software code development to support structural design and FEA would be considered an asset.
