As we expand into new markets-including multiplex housing, Indigenous, affordable housing, and community facilities-we are seeking a Principal Architect to lead design innovation, integrate BIM best practices, and oversee architectural deliverables on complex residential projects.
About the Role
This is a high-impact leadership position with broad responsibilities for advancing Linwood’s design offerings and driving innovation. You will play a key role in shaping our architectural vision, leading high-value customer projects, and contributing to internal initiatives that improve our products, processes, and services.
The ideal candidate combines technical excellence, creative vision, and strong leadership. This is a great role for a Senior Architect looking to make their mark in a new organization or a Principal Architect looking for a new challenge.
You will report directly to the CEO/President and collaborate closely with design, construction, and executive teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design Innovation
- Identify emerging needs and market trends across residential housing segments
- Conceptualize residential and light commercial buildings that maximize functionality, aesthetics, and cost-efficiency
- Optimize designs for diverse requirements, including affordability, accessibility, energy efficiency, and luxury features
- Deliver high-quality renderings and presentations of conceptual models
- Create designs that leverage prefabricated components and collaborate with production teams to develop new assemblies
- Research and integrate new products, materials, and technologies
Customer Projects
- Lead the design process for high-value custom projects
- Oversee site plans and topographical maps
- Liaise with clients to understand requirements and provide project updates
- Produce and oversee completion of drawing packages for permit and construction phases
- Support bid document preparation for larger-scale projects
Internal Leadership & Process Improvement
- Lead internal initiatives to enhance design processes and offerings
- Oversee BIM implementation, provide training, and champion best practices
- Identify and integrate new technologies to improve design timelines and quality
- Collaborate with supply chain teams to incorporate new products into designs
- Review market data to optimize the design library
- Partner with construction and prefabrication teams to streamline building processes
- Support estimation and quoting teams with design input for accurate pricing
- Contribute to broader company-wide initiatives alongside the executive team
Qualifications
Must-Have
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Architecture
- Minimum 10 years of architectural design experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role preferred
- Extensive experience in residential building design (single-family homes, multiplexes, townhomes, low-rise apartments)
- Expert user of CAD/BIM software (Revit preferred)
- Licensed Architect with a registered seal; authorized to sign Letters of Assurance/Certificates of Compliance for permit applications in BC
- Strong familiarity with Canadian building codes and structural engineering principles
- Experience applying AI tools within BIM workflows (preferred)
- Understanding of interior and landscape design integration
- Solid knowledge of current trends in the residential housing market
- Experience collaborating with contractors and trades
- Experience supporting pricing and estimation for a variety of project types
Nice to Have
- Experience in affordable housing and Indigenous housing projects
- Background in community facility or commercial project design
- Experience designing for prefabrication environments
- Familiarity with quantity surveying
- Knowledge of recreational or rural project requirements
- Experience with projects across Canada and the United States
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $140,000 – $160,000+ commensurate with experience
- This role is designed with growth potential, including eligibility for a performance-based bonus structure aligned with company success and individual contributions.
Bonus opportunities are typically introduced following an initial period of successful integration. - Comprehensive health and benefits package
