About the Role
The PLC Assistant is responsible for providing support to the automation and control systems used in our prototyping and testing operations. This includes the installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of test beds controlled via Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Safety Controllers, electromechanical controls, and related systems.
Responsibilities
- Install, program, test, and maintain PLC systems
- Troubleshoot and diagnose PLC and control system faults in a timely manner
- Interpret and produce electrical and mechanical drawings, schematics, and P&ID diagrams
- Configure and maintain HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems
- Collaborate with engineers and production staff to develop control solutions and improvements
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and ensure documentation of all work performed
- Modify and upgrade existing PLC programs, operation manuals, written program definitions, and technician notes to meet operational needs
- Ensure all control systems comply with health and safety standards, including CSA and ESA codes where applicable
- Maintain accurate records of system configurations, changes, and maintenance activities
- Support commissioning new equipment
- Strong collaboration and communication
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical faults
Qualifications
- College diploma or technical certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or a related field
- Experience working with PLC systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming languages (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text)
- Hands-on experience with PLCs
- Familiarity with industrial networking and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus)
- Solid understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of Ontario electrical safety codes and standards is an asset
- Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.

Pay range and compensation package
- Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications
- $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
