We primarily work with our clients on hardware, software, electrical, and mechanical patents. Why join us? * Small and nimble * Broad client base * Great reputation * Flat fee structure for most of our clients Job Details Patent Prosecution & Strategy * Draft and file U.S. and international patent applications related to mechanical devices, systems, and processes. * Oversee all phases of patent prosecution before the USPTO and international patent offices. * Respond to office actions, file appeals, and engage with examiners to secure robust patent protection. * Design and implement patent strategies tailored to mechanical innovations and client business goals. Client Relationship Management * Build and maintain trusted client relationships across industries such as manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, medical devices, and industrial design. * Offer strategic guidance on patent portfolio development, enforcement, and risk mitigation. * Identify and pursue opportunities to expand client relationships and the firm’s IP footprint. Technical and Legal Collaboration * Work directly with engineers, inventors, and technical teams to capture detailed mechanical innovations. * Translate mechanical designs and functions into clear, persuasive patent claims and specifications. * Collaborate with colleagues on matters involving IP litigation, licensing, and product development. Regulatory & Industry Awareness * Stay informed on U.S. and international patent law developments, particularly those affecting mechanical and industrial technologies. * Engage in continuing education and maintain technical fluency in emerging mechanical engineering innovations. Required Qualifications Education & Licensing * JD from an accredited law school. * Active registration to practice before the USPTO. Experience * At least 5 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a strong emphasis on mechanical inventions. * Proven ability to manage end-to-end patent prosecution for mechanical technologies. Technical Background * Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline. * Broad understanding of mechanical systems, product design, manufacturing processes, and physical principles. Soft Skills * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Strong analytical and drafting abilities. * Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment. Preferred Qualifications * Familiarity with global patent filing and prosecution strategies. * Experience supporting clients in sectors like aerospace, robotics, energy, or consumer products. * Prior work on cross-functional teams involving engineering, legal, and business stakeholders.
