From concept through construction administration, we deliver services rooted in pride, originality, and honesty.</p><p>This is an opportunity to do meaningful engineering work in an environment few others get to experience—where technical expertise and creative problem-solving directly improve the lives of northern communities.</p><p>The Opportunity:</p><p>We are hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) to join our team in Yellowknife. This is a full-time, in-person position that requires relocation. While our team collaborates remotely, the clients we serve and projects we deliver require your presence here in Yellowknife, with some travel to remote communities by highway or small aircraft.</p><p>As part of Trapline, you'll work on a variety of projects - from design to site review to construction support. You'll apply technical expertise while also gaining the unique professional and life experience that comes from working in the North.</p><p>What You'll Do:</p><ul><li>Lead multi-discipline projects.</li><li>Lead mechanical system designs (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) tailored for cold climates.</li><li>Assume project management duties for projects where they also serve as the technical lead.</li><li>Prepare and review drawings and models using CAD/BIM software.</li><li>Take projects from initial concept through completion, including construction administration.</li><li>Conduct site assessments and prepare detailed technical reports by occasional travel to remote communities in northern Canada.</li><li>Research and develop innovative solutions for northern-specific engineering challenges.</li><li>Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—architects, contractors, and other engineers.</li><li>Deliver cost-effective, accurate results that meet or exceed client expectations.</li></ul><p>Required Qualifications:</p><ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.</li><li>Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in a Canadian jurisdiction and eligible for registration in the Northwest Territories. <em>Applicants without P.Eng. registration (including EITs) will not be considered.</em></li><li>10 years of proven, relevant mechanical engineering experience.</li><li>Extensive knowledge of Canadian codes and regulations.</li><li>Experience leading design teams.</li><li>Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and organizational skills.</li><li>Skilled at conveying complex ideas with clarity to enhance team and client understanding.</li><li>Flexibility, self-motivated, and organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines.</li><li>Understand and follow project budgets to help avoid extra costs and keep project on track for clients and the company.</li></ul><p>It would be an asset if you have:</p><ul><li>Prior experience working in northern or remote settings.</li><li>Project management and research & development experience.</li></ul><p>Why Join Trapline?</p><ul><li>Join our small team of 7 people and contribute to projects that strengthen northern communities.</li><li>Be part of an Aboriginal-owned firm known for integrity, originality, and quality.</li><li>We value work/life balance.</li><li>Live in Yellowknife—a vibrant, adventurous community with a unique lifestyle and a variety of cultures.</li><li>An opportunity to see and experience a variety of northern communities while working on projects most engineers never get to experience.</li><li>Build lasting professional and personal connections</li></ul><p>Additional Details:</p><ul><li>Full-time, permanent position</li><li>Based in Yellowknife, NT (<em>relocation required</em>)</li><li>Travel northern Canada for site visits, this includes small planes and remote highways - sometimes during harsh weather conditions.</li></ul><p>If you are a registered P.Eng. in Canada ready to take on a career-defining role in one of Canada's most unique environments, we want to hear from you.</p><p>Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to complete testing prior to booking interviews.</p><p><em>We are only accepting applications from licensed Professional Engineers in Canada.
