<p>Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, Midstream & Upstream, this position will be responsible for providing a broad range of legal services to Nutrien’s Upstream operating segments (Nitrogen, Phosphate, Potash) and the Midstream Transportation, Distribution & Logistics (TD&L) business unit. Responsibilities include drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, advising on regulatory matters, pre‑litigation resolution of contract claims, and overseeing outside counsel.</p>
<h3>What You Will Do</h3>
<ul>
<li>Provide legal support to the Upstream and Midstream operating segments on a broad range of matters including contracts, freight, procurement, NDAs, real‑estate transactions, warranty issues, disclosure, regulatory reporting, environmental and safety matters, and pre‑litigation dispute resolution.</li>
<li>Work closely and collaboratively with procurement, operations, and other stakeholders, including within the Legal Department.</li>
<li>Provide day‑to‑day legal advice in support of Upstream and Midstream operational objectives involving mining, chemical production, and logistics matters.</li>
<li>Provide legal support on strategic business objectives and initiatives in the Upstream and Midstream operating segments.</li>
<li>Provide legal support on regulatory matters, including safety, health and environmental matters and transportation regulatory matters.</li>
<li>Assist in retaining and managing outside counsel as necessary.</li>
<li>Coordinate with and contribute legal assistance to tax, risk/insurance, and credit groups and other cross‑functional business units as needed.</li>
<li>Comply with all Company standards, policies and procedures pertaining to appropriate conduct for employees.</li>
</ul>
<h3>What You Will Bring</h3>
<ul>
<li>Membership and good standing in the Canadian Bar Association.</li>
<li>Minimum of 4–7 years of relevant experience, with a mix of law firm and in‑house corporate law department experience preferred.</li>
<li>US market experience preferred.</li>
<li>Excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal, and drafting skills.</li>
<li>Confidence, adaptivity, creativity, flexibility and the ability to operate effectively and independently in a dynamic business environment.</li>
<li>Ability to identify risks and propose alternative structures to mitigate risks.</li>
<li>Ability to handle multiple and varied legal projects simultaneously.</li>
<li>Skills to guide outside counsel.</li>
<li>Ability to work in a critical team environment.</li>
<li>Experience working closely with business executives and operations.</li>
<li>Prior experience with real‑estate transactions, construction and engineering contracts, supply chain matters in the heavy industry space, transportation and logistics matters, environmental and safety compliance, incident response, privileged investigations, and pre‑litigation contract disputes (especially in the construction space) would be a strong asset.</li>
