The job will remain open until a successful candidate is found.

Location is flexible, within Alberta, dependent on the successful applicant. However, periodically may be asked to work in other AFSC branches. Travel in these circumstances will be reimbursed according to AFSC’s Employee and Board of Directors Expense Policy.

Summary of the Role

The Leader, Enterprise & Engineering provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership for AFSC’s foundational technology environment, including infrastructure, enterprise applications, architecture, and engineering practices. They oversee the systems that power every aspect of AFSC’s operations, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and scalable. This role strengthens AFSC’s technology backbone, enables modernization across the enterprise, and empowers teams to deliver exceptional digital and operational services to Alberta’s producers. Their leadership ensures AFSC continues to evolve as a trusted, client-centered Crown corporation supporting Alberta’s agriculture sector.

What Will Your Growth Opportunities Look Like in This Role?

Lead enterprise-wide modernization of AFSC’s core technologies, systems, and engineering practices.

Influence the long-term technical direction of a large, provincial Crown corporation undergoing major digital transformation.

Build, mentor, and shape a high-performing technical team with cross-enterprise impact.

What Will You Be Responsible For?

Provide strategic direction and oversight for AFSC’s enterprise technology portfolio, including cloud infrastructure, enterprise architecture, data and integration, and IT service management.

Drive modernization initiatives for platforms such as SAP (ERP), Dayforce (HRIS), and related enterprise systems to enhance reliability, performance, and the user experience.

Oversee optimization, governance, and lifecycle planning for foundational systems, balancing innovation with operational excellence.

Lead financial and operational planning, including budgets, vendor management, and capital planning.

Champion automation, engineering best practices, and data integration to enhance scalability and risk management.

Lead and support a high-performing technical team that values accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Ensure enterprise platforms remain stable, secure, and ready to support modernization across all business lines.

What Are We Looking For From You?

A seasoned enterprise technology leader with deep technical expertise and proven strategic vision.

Ability to lead modernization programs within multi-system, complex environments.

Strong financial acumen and experience managing multi-year budgets and vendor partnerships.

Expertise in infrastructure, cloud platforms, ERP/HRIS environments, and IT service management.

Strong communication, influence, and relationship-building skills across both technical and business teams.

Commitment to developing high-performing, diverse teams grounded in collaboration, curiosity, and excellence.

Qualifications

Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a master’s degree or MBA is considered an asset.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Demonstrated success leading modernization and transformational initiatives in complex enterprise environments.

Experience leading large technical teams, infrastructure environments, and multi-system platforms.

Strong experience with cloud infrastructure, ERP/HRIS systems (SAP, Dayforce), automation, and IT service management.

Proven ability to align technology strategy with organizational priorities and foster trust across diverse teams.
