On behalf of our client, Sheridan Nurseries—a family business that is over 100 years old—we are pleased to share the opening for an Inventory Manager. The Inventory Manager is responsible for the analysis and management of inventory levels at all retail stores. This responsibility includes creating inventory budgets and forecasts, facilitating the imports of product from the US and overseas, and working collaboratively with Category Managers and cross-functionally to achieve objectives and ensure accountability.

Key Responsibilities Inventory Forecasting & Budgeting: Develop precise inventory forecasts and create on-demand budgets to optimize stock levels. Retail Inventory Management: Analyze and manage inventory levels across stores to ensure optimal stock availability. >Validate stock levels and perform stock balancing as needed. >Support initial allocation guidelines to ensure the right inventory is in the right place from the start. >Conduct density and sales/linear foot analyses.
Import Coordination: Oversee the importation of products from the US and international sources, ensuring timely, efficient, and cost-effective delivery. Collaborative Accountability: Work closely with Category Managers, holding them accountable for inventory performance and alignment with overall goals. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various departments to support company-wide initiatives and enhance inventory management practices.
Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in inventory procurement processes to streamline operations and enhance efficiency. Sales & Margin Forecasting: Execute sales, margin, and inventory forecasting by sub-category; manage open-to-buy (OTB) tracking based on trends to maintain appropriate inventory levels. Replenishment Strategy: Utilize farm push tools to centralize buying opportunities for replenishment.
Inventory Review: Conduct aged inventory assessments, identifying items needing immediate attention. Promotional Analysis: Perform detailed analyses of promotional activities and basket performance. Import Container Management: >Coordinate shipments between factories and freight forwarders. >Manage customs documentation and ensure timely delivery to ports. >Facilitate customs clearance with brokers and arrange for the delivery of containers to warehouses. >Oversee the pick-up of empty containers and the receipt of inventory into the PHX system. >Process invoices for duties, taxes, and freight related to import orders and materials.
Accounting Support: Assist with audits and manage general ledger entries for inventory-related accounts. Additional Responsibilities: Undertake other assigned tasks as needed. Key Qualifications Minimum 2 years working experience as an Inventory Manager Experience in strategic analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and measuring inventory productivity Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to solve complex inventory challenges Strong understanding of policies and procedures for international imports from US and overseas In-depth knowledge of logistics and supply chain management practices Proven ability to build a strong team through leading by example, coaching and developing Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to engage with various stakeholders Proven ability to negotiate contracts and terms when required Continuous improvement mindset Familiarity with inventory management software and ERP systems to enhance operational efficiency A degree or a college diploma in a related field Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
