The Opportunity:

Our client in the food manufacturing industry is experiencing rapid growth and is seeking an Interim Controller to support their evolving financial needs during a critical expansion phase. With 35-50% year-over-year growth and a growing portfolio of major retail and hospitality customers, the company is focused on stabilizing financial operations, improving costing accuracy, and implementing a robust financial planning framework.

This hands-on role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside a forward-thinking executive team to build the financial infrastructure needed to sustain long-term growth and success.

What You’ll Be Doing:


As Interim Controller, you will:

  • Lead the development of a reliable product costing model, ensuring accuracy across SKUs and alignment with food manufacturing cost structures.
  • Build and implement a forecasting, budgeting, and actuals tracking program that enables actionable insights and supports operational planning.
  • Evaluate current financial systems, including Sage and a separate ERP system for inventory, and recommend integration or process improvements.
  • Assess and improve reporting frameworks, including customer profitability, product-level margins, and expense analysis.
  • Partner with the existing accounting manager to stabilize and optimize day-to-day financial operations.
  • Provide leadership during the fiscal year-end (August) and contribute to financial planning for the upcoming year.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the leadership team in establishing finance as a strategic pillar of the business.

Deliverables Include:


  • A functional and accurate product costing model.
  • A rolling forecast and budget framework integrated with financial reporting.
  • Recommendations and implementation plan for streamlining accounting and inventory system processes.
  • A reporting structure that includes customer and product-level profitability metrics.
  • Fiscal year-end support and cash flow reporting enhancements.

What We’re Looking For:

  • CPA designation with proven experience in controllership or senior finance leadership roles within food manufacturing or CPG environments.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory systems, and ERP integrations.
  • Experience working with Sage and/or industry-specific ERP systems.
  • Hands-on, proactive leader with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
  • Comfortable leading change and building new processes while ensuring day-to-day operations are maintained.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence non-financial stakeholders.
  • Availability for a July start and ability to work on-site full-time for the initial ramp-up period.
