<p><h3>Overview</h3><p>Join to apply for the <b>Instructor, GIS Applications Specialist</b> role at <b>College of the North Atlantic</b></p>
<p>Salary will be determined in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement based on the candidate's education and experience.</p>
<h3>Duties and Responsibilities</h3>
<ul>
<li>Facilitate learning to students as part of the GIS Applications Specialist Post-Diploma program.</li>
<li>Delivering theory and practical components of any courses offered in the program relating to python programming, database management (MS Access & Oracle), geo-spatial analysis, and project planning.</li>
<li>Incorporate their own teaching style to existing lesson plans while meeting the learning objectives of the course material.</li>
<li>Work with other faculty members to ensure a coordinated and consistent teaching approach to ensure the planned curriculum for each course is delivered.</li>
<li>Prepare and implement various instructional strategies, techniques, and learning modules using an approved curriculum to achieve specified learning outcomes.</li>
<li>Utilize and advocate for the use of technology to advance teaching and learning.</li>
<li>Establish student performance objectives and evaluation methods.</li>
<li>Administer various assessments.</li>
<li>Meet with students regularly to gauge and evaluate progress.</li>
<li>Set a professional example and communicate effectively at a level appropriate to the ability of students and provide an emotionally safe learning environment that is conducive to learning.</li>
<li>Maintain appropriate classroom discipline following college policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Identify and resolve problem areas in learning.</li>
<li>Provide academic advising to students.</li>
<li>Participate in professional development activities, maintain currency, and strive for excellence in instructional practices and the business profession.</li>
<li>Actively participate in and contribute to accreditation activities to ensure the program is of the highest standard.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Screening Criteria</h3>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor of Applied Technology Geographic Information Systems OR Bachelor\'s Degree in Geographic Information Systems OR an undergraduate degree with specialization/concentration in geospatial applications, supplemented with an Advanced Diploma/Post-Diploma in GIS.</li>
<li>4 years of recent, relevant work experience.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Assessment Criteria</h3>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of GIS software applications, including ERSI suite of GIS products.</li>
<li>Knowledge of database management and associated automation and customization environments.</li>
<li>Ability to communicate effectively.</li>
<li>Organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.</li>
<li>Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs of students.</li>
<li>Proficiency and/or a willingness to embrace teaching and learning technologies to support the student learning experience.</li>
<li>Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships.</li>
<li>Commitment to teaching excellence and to supporting and delivering a positive student learning experience.</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.</li>
<li>Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.</li>
<li>Credentials obtained outside of Canada will require an evaluation to determine their Canadian educational equivalency. This evaluation must support the educational requirements for the position.</li>
