Role Overview:

Our Toronto office is currently recruiting for a Human Resources Generalist – Total Rewards in our Human Resources Department, reporting to Senior Director, Human Resources. This role requires a candidate who is well-versed in HR functional competencies including performance management, employee relations, benefits, compensation and HR information systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Administering firm benefits, including benefits enrolment, communication of benefits information and/or changes, assisting employees with benefit questions and coordination of updates to the benefits system.
  • Developing and maintaining current awareness of best practices, trends and market conditions for benefits/recognition.
  • Coordinating annual Group RRSP governance activities.
  • Evaluating and recommending changes to benefit plans as a result of internal or market analysis.
  • Managing and tracking the disability benefits programs (STD/LTD), including absence, accommodations and return to work plans.
  • Managing employee absenteeism.
  • Assisting with the annual salaried compensation process.
  • Leading the management and coordination of participation in annual market compensation surveys.
  • Making recommendations on process improvements or enhancements with respect to benefits and compensation processes
  • Evaluation, recommendation and delivery of wellness benefits programs and participation in various wellness initiatives.
  • Organizing and executing various internal firm events.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with other firm members to ensure that Human Resources is seen as a key business partner within the firm.
  • Working closely with payroll to advise/update any issues affecting employee pay.
  • Working closely with other members of the Human Resources team.
  • Assisting with and/or leading various HR projects and initiatives.
  • Various other administrative duties, as required.

The successful candidate must have the following education, experience and/or demonstrated skills:


  • Completion of post secondary degree and certificate in human resources is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of related human resources experience in a law firm or similar professional services environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently, taking initiative without instruction.
  • Demonstrated superior judgement and ability to ‘think on your feet’.
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities, often relating to sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to communicate and work collaboratively with firm members at all levels of responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial employment legislation.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Experience with benefit plan designs.
  • Experience with ADP, an asset.
  • Experience and knowledge of pensions and Group RRSP plan management is an asset.

Employment Type: Fixed-Term (1-Year Contract)
