Akkodis is seeking a Hardware Designer – Technical Specialist for a contract position with a client in Toronto, ON (Hybrid), and ideally looking for experience with hardware with CAD tools (MicroStation, AutoCAD). Central Design for Medium and Low Voltage

Must Have

8+ years of hardware experience


Post-secondary Technologist diploma or Electrical or Electronics Engineering degree

Strong experience with CAD tools (MicroStation, AutoCAD),

Good interpersonal and technical writing skills.


candidates who have done Central Design for Medium and Low voltage.

Candidates will be responsible for the preliminary to final design, through to deployment.

Candidates from Automotive, Aerospace, Heavy Machinery, and Consumer Electronics who are willing to be trained in Railway Signalling.


Key Responsibilities:

Technical Skills


Demonstrating a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in solving problems.

Good understanding of SelTrac signal plans and SelTrac Radio equipment.

Demonstrating an advanced level of logical reasoning resulting in effective hardware application designs, products, and processes.


Interpreting and the ability to write Requirements.

Preparing specifications for hardware and/or software components.

Proficient with the use of development tools, CAD packages (MicroStation, AutoCAD), selecting an appropriate design approach, and maximizing the use of existing design.


In possession or previously possessed Thales CMS Designer or Principles License

Management Skills

When required, lead a small team of designers (1 or 5 Designers) manage assigned tasks, schedule, and budget.


Keeping track of progress on all tasks assigned to the team, ensuring that all tasks proceed according to schedule, within budget, and under all requirements. Verify that all assigned work has been completed accurately and on time.

Carry out all assigned work efficiently, with a minimum of supervision.

Generating accurate, supportable estimates for current departmental technology and providing estimates for technologies that are new to the department.


Intimate understanding of Thales Work Instructions and the QMS process.

Knowledge of the Chorus process is an asset.

Communication Skills


Well-developed verbal skills to interact effectively and professionally in a variety of forums, well-developed writing skills to prepare clear, effective documents.

Good interpersonal and diplomatic skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization and the customer.


Soft Skills

Ability to work in a team environment.

Mentor junior or new members of the department.

Maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others.



Aptitude

Locating and researching source documentation for design activities.

Making timely decisions, both independently and in concert with others.


Identify problems or inefficiencies in the department’s operation and suggest improvements.

Key Requirements:

Post-secondary Technologist diploma or Electrical Engineering degree


8 – 12 years of related work experience

Computer literate with knowledge of CAD tools (MicroStation, AutoCAD), Bills of Materials (SAP), Configuration Management, Thales (ClearQuest), and Microsoft Office suite.

Good interpersonal and technical writing skills
