The 2026 Whitehorse Arctic Winter Games Host Society is seeking a dynamic leader for theposition of General Manager for the 2026 Arctic Winter Games to be hosted in Whitehorse,Yukon March 2026.

The Arctic Winter Games celebrate athletic competition, cultural exchange and social interactionand features participants from Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Alaska, Kalaallit Nunaat(Greenland), Nunavik (Northern Quebec), Northern Alberta and the Indigenous people (Sami) ofNorway, Sweden and Finland. The Games provide an opportunity for developing athletes tocompete in friendly competition while sharing cultural values from northern regions around thecircumpolar north.

Reporting to the Board of Directors Chair, the General Manager brings strategic leadership,support and knowledge to ensure effective implementation of the Board’s strategic vision andmandate for the 2026 Arctic Winter Games. The role assumes overall responsibility for theplanning, execution and administration of the 2026 Arctic Winter Games spanning all aspects ofmanaging a complex organization, in addition to responsibilities related to finance andadministration; sport and athlete services; venues and games operations; marketing andcommunications; and sponsorship and fundraising.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Sport/Recreation Management, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • 8+ years in sport management, multi-sport event experience, event management, marketing/sponsorship experience
  • Management experience leading initiatives, providing direction, and offering strategic insight in a multi-level, fast paced project-based environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing human and financial resources.
  • Demonstrated experience working with an event organizing committee where there is a strong partnership and cooperative effort between staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience connecting with a wide array of functional areas such as finance, human resources, marketing, fundraising and project management.
  • Experience building partnerships and working in a multicultural environment with an emphasis on Yukon First Nations’ culture.

  • Demonstrated capacity to be flexible and adapt to a variety of situations, individuals and groups.
  • Highly motivated and takes initiative.

Salary Range: Competitive Salary

Position Type: Full time – February 2024 to June 2026
