A Calgary-based processing facility centre is seeking a dynamic General Manager to lead operations at a state-of-the-art facility specializing in organics processing. This facility uses a mix of aerobic composting, anaerobic digestion, and resource recovery technologies to transform municipal organic waste into renewable energy and value-added by-products.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Operations

  • Develop and execute long-term business and operational strategies.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team across operations, maintenance, and safety.
  • Drive a culture of safety, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Operational Oversight


  • Oversee day-to-day processes: receiving, processing, odour control, and product distribution.
  • Implement KPIs and SOPs to optimize efficiency, product quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance programs and minimize equipment downtime.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the key liaison with municipal partners and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure contract performance, service levels, and reporting requirements are consistently met.
  • Build relationships with regulators, addressing audits, inspections, and reporting obligations.
  • Manage facility budget, operational costs, and capital investment planning.
  • Monitor financial performance and drive ROI on infrastructure and process improvements.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team through mentorship and training.
  • Ensure compliance with HR and health & safety policies.
  • Champion a proactive and inclusive safety culture.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 7–10+ years of leadership in waste management, environmental services, or similar sectors.
  • Experience managing operations involving composting, anaerobic digestion, or waste-to-energy systems.
  • Proven success with municipal contracts and large-scale infrastructure oversight.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and compliance standards.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and capital projects.
  • Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
