Role Description
We are seeking a skilled Backend Developer with expertise in Kotlin, Java, and GraphQL to join our team on a freelance basis.
You will be responsible for building and maintaining backend services, developing efficient GraphQL APIs, and contributing to the scalability and performance of the platform.
This is a hands-on role suited for someone comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services using Kotlin and Java
- Design and implement scalable GraphQL APIs
- Collaborate with frontend and mobile teams to ensure smooth API integrations
- Optimize performance and ensure reliability of backend systems
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes
- Debug issues and propose long-term solutions for backend challenges
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience with Kotlin or Java (preferably both)
- Strong understanding and practical experience with GraphQL
- Experience building RESTful and GraphQL-based APIs
- Familiarity with backend frameworks such as Spring Boot, Ktor, or similar
- Proficient in writing clean, testable, and scalable code
- Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases
Nice to Have
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and Git-based workflows
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Previous work in startup or product-led environments
