Our client is a prominent general contractor specializing in retrofitting cutting-edge data centers across Canada. We are dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure and services to meet the ever-evolving demands of our clients. As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking an experienced Field Superintendent with a focus on data center retrofits to join our team in Montreal, Quebec. The Field Superintendent is tasked with supervising construction sites, ensuring alignment with code regulations and health and safety standards. Additionally, they are held accountable for maintaining quality standards, adhering to project specifications, and keeping the project schedule on track. Facilitating necessary site meetings and executing daily tasks to ensure project progress while updating vital reports and documentation are integral aspects of the superintendent’s duties. Consistent communication with the project manager and other team members is of utmost importance. The superintendent’s role is instrumental in ensuring the successful and timely completion of the ongoing projects.

This Field Superintendent position is a full-time assignment for work focused in Montreal, Canada. The candidate will be expected to spend a majority of his or her time at the customer sites managing construction projects and developing relationships with the local customer teams. Knowledge and experience working in Montreal is critical to success in this position.



  • Fluent in both English and French languages
  • Familiarity with the Montreal contracting market, local culture, and knowledge of CNESST, RBQ licenses, CCQ trades, and competencies card.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory role within the construction industry, with a specific focus on data center retrofits or MEP environments.
  • Availability for maintenance windows and overnight shifts as required with extensive experience with MOP-intensive processes.
  • First person opening the gate or site in the morning, and last person to leave the site at the end of the day; it’s essential the Superintendent is onsite when trades are working onsite. There may be periods of long hours, long weeks, perhaps even weekends – as is accustomed in this industry during exercises such as commissioning or during periods of escalation.
  • This posting is for the metro Montreal region. However, it may be necessary to travel outside of the region and/or province.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully delivering projects within budget while maintaining rigorous financial controls. Proven ability to achieve cost savings and maximize profit margins. Experience in managing budgets exceeding $20M.
  • Proficiency in managing projects that involve multiple disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of data center retrofit processes and adherence to best practices.
  • Familiarity with construction/project management software, esp Procore.
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices, safety, health, and performance standards.
  • Outstanding on-site communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of resolving conflictual situations.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, particularly in challenging field conditions.
  • Robust leadership qualities and effective team management skills.
  • Reliability and flexibility, capable of diffusing stress during critical moments.
  • Results-driven mindset with a sense of urgency.
  • Team player with decision making and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to use telephone, written logs, email, computer, mobile phone devices, digital camera.
  • Ability to read and interpret written information including wiring diagrams, blueprints, construction documents, material submittals, cut sheets, etc.
  • Computer literacy including advanced MS Office skills.
  • Oral communication skills for group presentations and participation in meetings.
  • Write clearly and informatively; edit work for spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining quality.
  • Ability to calculate figures, costs, prices, gross margin, and total project amounts.
  • Use of basic hand tools (screwdrivers, wire strippers/cutters, drills, etc.).
  • Comfortable working with both low voltage and line voltage electrical components safely.


  • Proficiency with Procore.
  • 4-year degree in Construction Engineering or 5 years equivalent/relevant field experience.
  • Data Center specific certifications (DCEP, CDCP, etc;).
  • HVAC and Mechanical experience a plus.
  • Low voltage license or certification.


In this role, the essential job functions of Field Superintendent include:

1. Data Center Retrofit Project Management:

  • Lead the execution of data center retrofit projects, ensuring they meet client requirements, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to coordinate all on-site activities effectively.

2. On-Site Leadership:

  • Provide hands-on leadership to a team of field technicians and subcontractors, offering guidance and technical expertise.
  • Cultivate a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability among on-site personnel.

3. Emergency Response and Issue Resolution:

  • Develop and execute emergency response protocols for on-site issues, focusing on minimizing disruptions and downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues swiftly and effectively to keep projects on track.

4. Preventive Maintenance and Quality Control:

  • Implement quality control measures to ensure all retrofit work meets or exceeds industry standards and client expectations.
  • Conduct regular on-site inspections to proactively identify and address potential issues.

5. Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:

  • Collaborate closely with subcontractors and vendors for on-site construction and retrofit activities.
  • Monitor their performance and ensure compliance with project specifications and timelines.

6. Budget Oversight:

  • Assist in formulating and managing budgets for on-site field operations of retrofit projects.
  • Monitor expenses and work within budgetary constraints.

7. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all retrofit activities, inspections, and quality control measures.
  • Generate reports to assess and communicate project progress and quality.

8. Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure strict compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations on-site.
  • Implement safety protocols and deliver regular safety training to the field team.

9. General

  • Understand our Mission.
  • Understand our technical core solutions, EC Fan & VFD retrofits, Aisle Containment, RCx and Controls.
  • Understand, apply, and advocate the “EE Way”.
  • Attend meetings of other departments on request for general awareness.
  • Travel to oversee, support and advise technicians and subcontractors, as needed (travel up to ~50% throughout a year).
  • Support Construction Managers in scheduling, documentation, communication, and cost management, as requested.
  • Complete timecards, expense reports, travel arrangements, etc. and provide on time, as required by administrative staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
