ERP Development Manager (Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Business Central, Retail)
A leading retail organization is seeking an ERP Development Manager to lead the modernization of its enterprise ERP landscape. This is a hands-on leadership role for a senior ERP professional who thrives at the intersection of architecture, development, and people leadership.
You will own the end-to-end migration from Microsoft NAV (on-prem) to Dynamics 365 Business Central (Cloud), driving technical strategy while remaining actively involved in system design, AL development, integrations, and deployment. This role plays a critical part in enabling scalable, secure, and high-performing ERP solutions that support retail operations across stores, e-commerce, supply chain, and finance.
This is a full-time, on-site role based at the corporate office in North York.
Role & Responsibilities
ERP Strategy, Architecture & Delivery
- Lead the ERP development roadmap and technical execution for the migration from NAV to Business Central (Cloud)
- Analyze, stabilize, and refactor legacy NAV customizations into extension-based BC architecture
- Define and govern integration architecture across:
- LS Central / POS
- E-commerce platforms
- CRM and WMS
- Finance, merchandising, supply chain, and inventory systems
- Vendor APIs and retail technologies
- Establish standards for security, telemetry, monitoring, and system performance
Data Migration & Quality
- Own data model mapping (NAV BC, aligned with LS Central)
- Oversee ETL, data cleansing, validation, reconciliation, and cutover execution
- Define data governance practices, master data ownership, and quality controls
Hands-On Engineering Leadership
- Write and review AL / CAL code, optimization strategies, and refactoring efforts
- Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, and standardized deployments
- Own environment management (Sandbox, UAT, Production) and branching strategies
- Define unit, regression, and performance testing frameworks
- Establish coding standards, technical documentation, and version control practices
Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead and grow a team of ERP developers (initially 3+, scaling with demand)
- Mentor developers in modern, secure, extension-based BC development
- Embed agile and DevOps best practices (sprint planning, workflow tracking, RCA)
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Governance
- Act as the primary technical bridge between business leaders and the ERP roadmap
- Lead discovery sessions, design workshops, and technical decision-making forums
- Partner with IT leadership to enforce cybersecurity, compliance, and release governance
- Support incident management, post-mortems, and disaster recovery planning
Skills & Qualifications
- 7+ years of ERP development experience with Microsoft NAV and/or Dynamics 365 Business Central
- Deep hands-on experience with AL/CAL development and extension-based architecture
- Strong expertise in LS Central / LS Retail and retail ERP / POS ecosystems
- Solid NAV module experience, including:
- Financial Management & General Ledger
- Cost Accounting, Jobs, Scheduler
- Purchasing, Sales & Marketing
- Proven experience leading NAV Business Central migrations
- Expert-level integration design across POS, e-commerce, CRM, WMS, finance, and vendor APIs
- Experience with EDI, APIs, and secure integration patterns (OAuth, tokenization, queues)
- Strong understanding of data governance, ETL, reconciliation, and master data management
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and ERP release management
- Knowledge of cloud security best practices (Azure AD, least privilege, access governance)
- Ability to proactively identify and resolve performance and integration risks
Nice to Have
- Azure services experience (Functions, Service Bus, Key Vault)
- Power BI modeling and retail analytics
- Azure DevOps-based CI/CD automation for ERP deployments
- Magento or similar e-commerce platform integrations
