Number of Openings: 1 Worker Type: Temporary Position Overview: Reporting to the Enterprise Architecture Leader, the Enterprise Architect will be a key participant engaged in improving Finning’s architecture maturity with regards to governance frameworks, best practices, architecture principles, business capability model, application architecture, data management, enterprise integration management, and infrastructure and security support.

The Enterprise Architect will leverage and build on their previous knowledge gained in previous roles such as a solutions architect, data architect, business architect, business analyst, application architect or technical architect. They will have detailed knowledge in one primary area with general knowledge in the other architecture disciplines. An Enterprise Architect is the glue that integrates the project and program strategies across multiple programs and projects, and ensures alignment with business strategies, drivers and management priorities.

The Enterprise Architect produces many deliverables including roadmaps, scorecards and models that define and describe the goals the Enterprise is trying to achieve, the processes needed to be performed to meet these goals, the things (data) needed to perform these processes, applications that implement the processes and the organizational alignment and responsibilities in place to perform the required activities. Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with stakeholders to set the direction, approach and standards for information technology usage.
  • Work with the PMO and leadership teams to develop and apply appropriate EA governance to projects. Beginning in the ideation phases, EA assists decision makers to assess project value, fit, and risk. Work with project teams to ensure that outcomes delivered are aligned to, and support, the enterprise architecture.
  • Build, maintain and manage business capability models and mapping to business processes and applications (and components) that implement those business processes. This includes application rationalization and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure information security is built into enterprise architecture solutions to address all identified risks to assets within the organization, meet regulatory compliance while ensuring security solutions are leveraged across the enterprise.
  • Support and sustain enterprise architecture scorecards and metrics, including review of enterprise architecture maturity model and implementation of a roadmap to increase architecture maturity within Finning.
  • Establish and maintain strong, strategic partnerships with Finning business operating units. Work with key stakeholders and business partners to ensure a coordinated approach to enterprise architecture and solution delivery.
  • Alignment with PMO and critical programs, including project lifecycle interdependencies review, support of lean principles, provision of templates and artifacts, gap assessment and recommendations.
  • Partner with IT Solutions Delivery to facilitate the evaluation and selection of hardware and software technology and product standards, as well as the design of standard solution configurations.
  • Consult on application or infrastructure development projects to map systems or infrastructure to the technical architecture, identifying instances when it is necessary to modify the architecture to accommodate business requirements.
  • Work with key stakeholder groups to define and publish integrated, strategic roadmaps and technology standards that incorporate key portfolios and all business units.
  • Assist and support to the enterprise security, risk, governance, compliance and operations functions.
  • Work closely with various teams (business, vendors, partners, development, infrastructure, PMO, etc.) to define and implement practical, scalable and sustainable solutions based upon enterprise roadmaps and standards such as emphasizing buy before build and preference of cloud vs. on premise deployments where possible.
  • Project support through collaboration with multiple groups across the organization, assessing project proposals, evaluating technologies and advising other architects (e.g., solution and data architects) on strategies, solution design and alignment with enterprise architecture principles and objectives.
  • Participate in key project design reviews as part of the methodology process to ensure solution designs adhere to enterprise architecture guidelines and standards.
  • Regular contribution and collaboration to create team plans and budget.


  • The Enterprise Architect is a seasoned practitioner of complex enterprise architecture and data governance.
  • The Enterprise Architect will possess a broad background in different industry sectors, and it is desirable to have experience and knowledge in at least one or more business functional areas that apply to Finning (Sales, Service, Rentals, Finance etc.). This allows the Enterprise Architect to converse with business stakeholders and senior management on their terms.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience planning or implementing complex IT programs and projects, applying formal project management methods.
  • A business degree (+ 5 years of technical experience) or a computer science degree (+ 5 years of business experience) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in cross-industry experience (for example modelling, solution or data architecture, system evaluation, rationalization, portfolio management, software development lifecycle, etc.
  • 7+ years of experience in ERP, CRM, eCommerce and data platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience in IoT, data visualization platforms, Azure (or similar enterprise) cloud solutions.
  • Minimum 5 years business experience spanning multiple industries.
  • Minimum 5 years of supply chain industry experience (distribution, wholesale, retail, manufacturing) or similar including asset and maintenance management, sales, and service.
  • At least one enterprise architecture framework certification (e.g., Zachman, TOGAF, DoDaf, etc.) or proven competency in a framework.
  • Knowledge and the ability to balance best practices from various methodologies ranging from waterfall to agile, SCRUM, lean, ITIL, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of advanced architecture patterns incorporating considerations such as service-oriented architecture (SOA), microservices, enterprise service bus, process automation, enterprise data models, canonical models, and messaging.
  • Ability to develop a comprehensive understanding of Finning’s business, market, and industry, relating that knowledge to identified operations and IT related opportunities.
  • Software development knowledge using various tools and platforms.
  • Strong business analysis experience and skills including development of functional decomposition, capabilities model, process modelling, application and data architecture artifacts, gap analysis, etc. The ability to analyze the current environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
  • Effective organizational change management, conflict management and decision-making skills
