Job Description
<em>St-Laurent Academy </em>is a dynamic and inspiring, JK to Grade 12, Private School located in Ottawa, Ontario.<br>We are growing significantly, recently purchasing a new school space in the beautiful Rockcliffe/Lindenlea neighbourhood, and are currently accepting applications for full-time: Core/Homeroom Elementary Teachers. <br><br>Specifically, we are recruiting for an additional <em>Grade 5 Homeroom/Core Teacher. </em>This is a full time, full contract position that we see carrying on through, as we continue to expand, into the year. The focus in on the Grade 5 core subjects: English Language Arts, Math & Social Studies. This role does include 1 Grade 6 Social Studies class, 2x per week. <br><br>Our classrooms are never more than 15 students and are well supported with technology and the necessary educational /pedagogical tools, as well as by the Principal and Head of Resource.<br><br>NOTE: Individuals applying for this role MUST live in Ottawa and/or the Ottawa area or are in the process of relocating within the month.<br>Qualifications:<ul><li>Must be eligible to work in Ontario.</li><li>Ontario Teaching Certification (OCT) in good standing. Note: equivalent certification is accepted, with the confirmation that the candidate is and/or will be applying for OCT standing.</li><li>Excellent classroom management, organization, and planning skills.</li><li>Excellent oral, written, communication, and presentation skills in English.</li><li>Computer literacy: proficient and knowledgeable with all Google Suite products (Google Classroom, Docs, Slides, Forms, Sheets) Microsoft Office (Excel), and Smart-board Technology.</li><li>Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of each student.</li><li>Understands the needs of students and goes beyond the call of duty.</li><li>Ability to collaborate with colleagues, administration, and parents.</li><li>Flexible, with an ability to manage to change strategies, environments, and needs.</li><li>Core characteristics with regards to kindness, patience, creativity, positive energy and a love for teaching is essential.<br><br></li></ul>
The following assets are preferred but not required:<ul><li>Ability to communicate in French (required for our JK-SK Programs).</li><li>Experience in a private/independent school.</li><li>Experience /Education in Special Education is valued highly.</li><li>Coaching and Leadership experiences (the Arts, Sports, Clubs, etc.) are important.</li><li>Experience with the Barton Reading & Spelling Program and/or Orton-Gillingham based tools.</li></ul>
<br>Compensation and Benefits:<ul><li>Competitive salary with additional annual bonus components.</li><li>Benefits include Group Health Insurance (after 180 days of employment).</li><li>Self-Directed RRSP (with employer contribution after 1 year of employment).</li><li>Additional week vacation during March/Spring Break (2 weeks), in addition to regular vacation time, stat holidays and extra days that the school provides to support teacher wellness.</li><li>Maternity Leave Top Up.</li><li>Ability to participate in school trips and adventurous outings.</li><li>Ability to Coach a team and/or run a specific specialized club in addition to the regular schedule, with additional remuneration provided.</li></ul>
<br>The school follows the traditional school year calendar from early September through late June.<br><br>Our High School is per semester.
