Overview and Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Chief of Operations and Chief Nursing Officer and as an integral member of the leadership and patient care team, the Director of Interprofessional Practice & Education provides strategic leadership to advance collaborative clinical practice and professional development across nursing and allied health disciplines. This role is responsible for fostering a culture of evidence-based care, interprofessional collaboration, and continuous learning to ensure the highest standards of patient care. The incumbent oversees the development and implementation of professional practice frameworks, education programs, and competency initiatives that support clinical excellence and organizational priorities. Working closely with clinical leaders, educators, and academic partners, the Director drives innovation in practice and education to enhance quality outcomes and staff engagement.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide visionary leadership for nursing and allied health teams, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and regulatory standards
  • Develop and implement strategies to advance professional practice and interprofessional collaboration across clinical disciplines
  • Lead initiatives to enhance patient safety, quality of care, and evidence-based practice

Professional Practice

  • Establish and maintain clinical practice standards, policies, and procedures for nursing and allied health services
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and clinical excellence
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation, licensing, and professional regulatory requirements

Education & Development

  • Oversee professional development programs, including orientation, continuing education, and competency assessments for nursing and allied health staff
  • Collaborate with academic partners to support student placements and clinical education
  • Champion lifelong learning and leadership development within clinical teams

Operational Oversight

  • Manage resources and budgets for nursing, pharmacy, and diagnostic imaging departments
  • Monitor performance metrics, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency
  • Drive innovation in clinical workflows and technology adoption

Collaboration & Engagement

  • Foster strong relationships with physicians, administrative leaders, and external stakeholders
  • Serve as a key liaison for interprofessional practice initiatives and organizational committees

Corporate Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
  • Be responsible for and ensure that all staff supervised are trained and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Schroeder Ambulatory Centre Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in Nursing or a recognized equivalent is preferred
  • Regulated Health Professional with current registration in good standing (CNO and/or MRTO)
  • Completion of a Registered Nurses Program is required
  • Minimum 5 years of RN experience, including recent and relevant experience in nursing leadership, advanced practice, or a comparable role is required
  • Demonstrated theoretical and practical experience in adult education
  • Experience in educational program planning, development, and evaluation is preferred
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Level II – Basic Rescuer certification is required
  • Specialty certification relevant to area of responsibility is required
  • Strong teaching and adult learning facilitation skills is an asset
  • Membership in a related professional association or interest group preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information to diverse audiences, including senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Strong organizational, strategic planning, and prioritization skills, with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience managing or collaborating with support services such as pharmacy and diagnostic imaging is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in collaborative, team-based environments
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound, independent decisions and solve complex problems aligned with organizational goals
  • Proven ability to work independently while mentoring team members and leading cross-functional teams
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to identify root causes and implement innovative solutions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • Ability to provide proof of immunization and TB records
