<p><p>Location: Cedar Glen Y Day Camp and Toronto Island Y Day Camp</p><p>Work Hours: Part time hours until June, then up to 40 hours per week Monday – Friday starting June 1 until September 4, 2026</p>

<p>The Day Camp Assistant Director plays an integral role in on-site leadership by supporting the Camp Director in coordinating program operations, guiding staff, and maintaining high standards of safety and program quality. The position contributes to daily oversight by supervising staff, coaching and mentoring counsellors, and ensuring that all children experience a positive and growth-oriented camp environment. Responsibilities include managing key administrative functions such as scheduling, reporting, communication, and other tasks essential to smooth camp operations. The Assistant Director also provides leadership continuity by acting as Camp Director when the Day Camp Director is off-site or absent.</p>
<h3>In this role, you will:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Provide on-site leadership and supervision to camp staff through training, coaching, monitoring performance, and supporting staff to meet role expectations</li>
<li>Coordinate daily operations of the day camp program, including creating and completing setup and takedown checklists and designing schedules to ensure all camper groups participate in all activities outlined in program manuals</li>
<li>Monitor the delivery of safe, high-quality programs, ensuring staff have all necessary supplies and are incorporating Day Camp values beads daily</li>
<li>Ensure administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time, including payroll paperwork, staff scheduling, camper attendance, parent communication, and YMCA visa reconciliation, and submit all required documents to Administrative Coordinator -Staff & Camp Operations</li>
<li>Administer parent and staff communications by checking camp email and voicemail daily and responding to all inquiries promptly and courteously</li>
<li>Attend all staff trainings and meetings, arrive on time, and actively participate to support the development of camp staff</li>
<li>Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed and maintained, and contribute to the cleaning, safety, and maintenance of camp sites</li>
<li>Act as a positive role model for campers and staff by embodying YMCA values, policies, procedures, Day Camp guidelines, and Ontario Camping Association standards</li>
<li>Perform other duties as assigned</li>
</ul>
<h3>You bring:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Post‑secondary education (or currently enrolled) preferred, or equivalent experience</li>
<li>Minimum 1‑year experience in child‑oriented programs, with camp‑specific experience considered an asset</li>
<li>Experience working with children preferred</li>
<li>Supervisory experience an asset</li>
<li>Standard First Aid & CPR‑C required by the first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of the contract</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and in a team environment</li>
<li>Well‑developed interpersonal and relationship‑building skills with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with families, staff, and volunteers</li>
<li>Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a group of children</li>
<li>Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging</li>
</ul>
