We are looking for a motivated and passionate candidate to become part of our high paced Brokerage Team.
Position Overview:
The Customs Rater is responsible for rating and processing customs entries for both imports and exports, in compliance with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and other relevant regulatory requirements.
This role supports the timely and compliant movement of goods across borders by reviewing documentation, classifying products, coordinating with internal and external parties, and ensuring proper billing and record-keeping.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and transmit accurate import/export customs entries using systems such as ACROSS, CADEX, and other EDI platforms
- Process entries for all modes of transport (air, ocean, road, courier)
- Ensure timely release of shipments by proactively resolving any customs or documentation issues
- Classify goods accurately under the Harmonized System (HS) using CBSA guidelines
- Stay current with tariff updates, trade agreements (e.g., CUSMA), valuation rules, and export controls (Global Affairs Canada)
- Process different types of customs entries, including CLVS, temporary imports, and corrections
- Maintain compliance by supporting internal audits and reviews
- Request, review, and verify all necessary documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, permits, etc.)
- Maintain complete and accurate customs records, including releases, corrections, adjustments, and export declarations
- Deliver exceptional service to internal and external clients
- Act as liaison with CBSA officers, carriers, forwarders, and other government agencies
- Respond promptly to standard inquiries from clients, customs, and transportation partners
- Coordinate delivery arrangements and negotiate rates with carriers
- Ensure prompt and accurate billing for brokerage services and applicable duties/taxes
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in import operations, with a strong background in freight forwarding or logistics
- At least 1 year of customs rating experience in both import and export environments
- Strong knowledge of Canadian customs regulations, HS classification, valuation, and origin rules
- Familiarity with trade agreements (e.g., CUSMA), CBSA systems (e.g., ACROSS, CADEX), and export documentation
- Proficiency in customs software; experience with CargoWise is a strong asset
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation is preferred or in progress
- Post-secondary education in International Business, Logistics, or a related field preferred
- Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced, team-based environment
