Customs Broker
Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced and licensed Canadian Customs Broker to lead and expand national customs brokerage operations. This role is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, managing brokerage operations, driving strategic growth, and overseeing financial performance. The Customs Broker will act as the licensed officer with CBSA and collaborate across logistics, freight forwarding, and compliance teams to deliver integrated trade solutions. The ideal candidate will bring 7‑10 years of experience in customs brokerage or international logistics, including 3+ years in a leadership role, along with deep knowledge of Canadian customs regulations and a strong track record in business development.
Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with CBSA regulations, the Customs Act, CARM, and international trade agreements.
- Maintain and renew the company's Customs Brokerage License and act as the licensed officer.
- Oversee classification, valuation, origin, duty/tax assessments, and special import/export requirements.
- Lead and mentor a team of customs professionals, fostering a culture of compliance and service excellence.
- Develop and implement SOPs for customs clearance and brokerage operations.
- Collaborate with internal teams to deliver integrated logistics solutions.
- Manage brokerage P&L, budgets, and performance metrics.
- Recommend and implement technology solutions to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and act as a subject‑matter expert.
- Represent the company at industry events and with regulatory bodies.
Requirements
- Licensed Customs Broker in Canada (mandatory).
- 7‑10 years of experience in customs brokerage, trade compliance, or international logistics.
- 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian customs regulations, tariff classification, valuation, origin, and CARM.
- Proven business development and client relationship skills.
- Proficiency in customs brokerage software (e.g., CDS, Cargowise, Descartes) and MS Office.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.
