Job Summary

Join our team and play a vital role in facilitating international trade. We are seeking a detail-oriented individual to ensure strict adherence to U.S. and Canadian customs regulations. In this role, you will process import and export documents to support the seamless movement of cross-border packages. You will act as a key liaison, communicating with consignees, shippers, and brokers to clear shipments, resolve paperwork discrepancies, and manage customs holds.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure full compliance with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) regarding on-site package examinations, shipment hold requirements, and final shipment clearance.
• Investigate and research issues regarding CBSA bonded shipments currently on hold at the Gateway; this involves active communication with consignees, shippers, and brokers.
• Research CBSA tracers and provide timely responses with necessary clearance information.
• Review and verify shipment data to ensure compliance with United States Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) standards.
• Manage inbound and outbound telephone communications to resolve paperwork issues, including the settlement of duties and taxes, to clear shipments and close entries.
• Perform accurate routine data entry and direct commercial invoices through the Genesis System to brokers as part of the clearance process.
• Complete other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Education

• Required: High school diploma.
• Preferred: Post-secondary education in International Studies or holder of the Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation.

Experience

• No prior experience is required; we are willing to train the right candidate.
• Preferred: Administrative experience within the cross-border transportation and/or customs industry.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
• Solid understanding of technical and administrative terminology related to U.S. and Canadian government import and export regulations.
• Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
• Superior customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively.

Work Schedule

• Monday to Friday: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

Additional Job Conditions & Requirements

• Must be able to operate in a PC Windows environment.
• Must be able to complete and achieve minimum thresholds on any mandatory testing and training.
• Ability to successfully complete all recurrence training and maintain annual accreditations where applicable.
• Must be willing to work varying shifts based on business needs.
• Bilingualism (French and English) is mandatory if the incumbent resides in the province of Quebec.
