Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a Construction Takeoff Specialist (MEP) who will own all MEP takeoffs and material ordering to keep projects running smoothly, reduce avoidable errors, and support our field teams. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-obsessed, proactive, and committed to improving systems. You will partner closely with foremen, procurement, and project managers to ensure materials are accurate, on time, and aligned with installation needs.

If you enjoy being the person the team can rely on for accuracy, clarity, and organization — this role will fit you well.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

Takeoffs & Material Ordering

  • Complete accurate MEP takeoffs for active projects and break down scopes into clear, actionable “chunks.”

  • Verify material lists, correct discrepancies, and submit orders on time.

  • Maintain a proactive ordering workflow to dramatically reduce urgent or last-minute requests.

  • Ensure materials arriving onsite match installation requirements and correct any inconsistencies.

  • Clarify details with foremen, project managers, or tradespeople when needed.

  • Field Collaboration & Support
  • Build rapport with foremen and understand their installation styles and ordering preferences.

  • Adapt takeoff and ordering methods to support field efficiency.

  • Visit job sites when needed to validate measurements, conditions, or specific installation details.

  • Quality, Accuracy & Improvement
  • Reduce avoidable mistakes (quantities, fittings, specs) to near zero through thorough checks.

  • Identify non-standard or specialty material needs and spec them clearly.

  • Continuously improve takeoff and ordering systems, increasing speed and accuracy over time.

  • Own the workflow end-to-end so the team trusts your work and relies on it confidently.

Success in This Role Looks Like
  • 60 Days: All active project material orders are reviewed, corrected if needed, and submitted accurately and on time. Solid working relationships formed with each foreman.

  • 90 Days: Trades experience smoother ordering cycles and fewer clarifications; your work clearly eases their load.

  • 3–6 Months: Avoidable ordering mistakes drop to near zero; urgent or last-minute orders become rare. Workflows are fully owned and running smoothly.

  • 12 Months: Procurement is streamlined, with one person (you) accurately and proactively managing most ordering. Projects experience fewer material delays and greater installation efficiency.
