<p><h3>Claims Counsel</h3>
<p>Our Canadian office is currently recruiting for a Claims Counsel. The Claims Counsel will perform customer service, claims and legal functions within all lines of commercial business, but with particular emphasis on General Liability Claims and Professional Liability claims. The incumbent will ensure timely disposition of mid‑size to large complex claims with the purpose of achieving timely resolution and cost‑effective settlements on behalf of DWF Claims Canada Ltd. and its clients, both international and domestic.</p>
<b>This position can be remote from anywhere in Canada.</b>
<h3>Responsibilities</h3>
<ul>
<li>Investigate complex claims through adjusters and counsel with a focus primarily on Professional Liability and some Wrap up liability, and other liability claims</li>
<li>Evaluate information on all types of claims and damages to determine the extent of exposure to the client and carrier</li>
<li>Provide legal guidance on applicable insurance laws and regulations, coverage interpretation, policy wording, and claims resolution strategies</li>
<li>Assess insurance claim coverage, liability, and quantum</li>
<li>Effectively implement a litigation management programme on assigned files</li>
<li>Set reserves within authority and make claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to the appropriate client(s), as well as documenting files with clear, well‑written file notes summarizing activities on each file</li>
</ul>
<h3>What will help you succeed in this role?</h3>
<ul>
<li>A university degree or college diploma</li>
<li>Minimum 5 to 8 combined years of experience in legal practice and insurance claims handling</li>
<li>Completion of or pursuing the CIP designation is preferred</li>
<li>Have or close to obtaining an Ontario Insurance Adjusters Licence, or equivalent from another province</li>
<li>Commercial claims adjusting experience with knowledge of the Lloyd’s Market</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and assimilate learning materials on many different subjects from various sources</li>
<li>Strong oral and written communication skills as well as listening skills</li>
<li>Committed team player with a preference to work in a collaborative setting</li>
<li>Excellent negotiation skills with an aptitude for diplomacy</li>
<li>Strong customer orientation to respond to and support customer needs</li>
<li>Effective time management and organisation skills</li>
<li>Bilingualism/ability to monitor and handle claims in French would also be considered an asset</li>

<p>The salary range for this position is up to CA$130,000 per annum, dependent on years and relevance of individual experience.</p>
